Tune in to the TV premiere of a program about St. Luke on EWTN (USA and Canada) on the Gospel writer’s feast day, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m. ET.

The one-hour film, St. Luke the Evangelist, was written, directed and produced by Elisabetta Valgiusti, includes dramatic scenes and documentary interviews.

St. Luke, one of the Four Evangelists, was a Gentile from Antioch in Syria, living where the disciples of Jesus were first called Christians, including St. Paul, who called him “the beloved physician” (Colossians 4:14).

Luke’s Gospel offers an extensive biography of Our Lord, and he also wrote the Acts of the Apostles.

“Between these two volumes, he wrote more of the New Testament than any other author, with St. Paul writing the second most,” EWTN explains.

Tradition also attributes the first icons of Our Lady to Luke.

The dramatized scenes of this film represent St. Luke, the Blessed Mother and other holy figures displaying passages of Luke’s writings, an online preview explains.

The documentary portion includes the insights of various scholars and theologians, including the president of the Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses.

Filming locations included: Bethlehem, Ein Karem, Caesarea Maritima, Jerusalem, Padua, Bologna and Rome. Visits to sites with relics and icons attributed to St. Luke are included.
