A Mother’s Mission: Celebrating Life’s Moments, One Balloon at a Time

‘There’s a quiet prayer in my heart with every piece I design, that it will bring smiles, peace and a sense of celebration that reflects God’s love ...’

As the school year has come to a close for most across the country by now, with college and high-school graduations, middle-school step-up ceremonies, and even kindergarten clap outs, there is one thing that is certain: It’s balloon season.

And here in the beautiful, nestling hills and trees of northern New Jersey, Catholic entrepreneur Daniella Delaney has been busy constructing the most stunning and attention-grabbing displays in the region.

For the happy wife and mother of four beautiful children, she wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I love being part of the moments that matter most to people,” Delaney told the Register.

“Every event I design for is a celebration of love, milestones and togetherness. The fact that I get to add beauty and joy to those moments — sometimes even helping people express emotions they can’t put into words — is such an honor. That’s what fills my heart the most.”

How did this busy matriarch begin this bustling career that left her just a couple of weeks ago renting a U-Haul for one of her biggest and most intricate designs? She was just trying to give her first garland away for free.

“Balloons by D started when I decided to DIY a balloon garland with a friend for my daughter’s first birthday in January 2020,” the New Jersey native recalled.

“I posted it online when I was finished as a giveaway, and my inbox was flooded with people asking us to make them one! It became my small creative outlet — something fun I did for friends, family or anyone who asked, and then it quickly turned into a true passion. I found so much joy in seeing people’s reactions and being a part of their celebrations. Eventually, I turned that passion into a business — and Balloons by D was born!”

And now, it has truly become something more, as she pours her own heart and passion into each multicolored balloon pole or arch, integrated with eye-catching elements that really bring the reason for celebration to life.

And her Catholic faith really shapes her own business plan.

“My family’s faith and the values we teach our children is the foundation of everything I do,” Delaney explained. “It teaches me to work with love, serve others with humility, and use my gifts to bring joy.”

Working on several projects for Catholic families in the area (including her own daughter’s first Communion this spring), are very special to her.

“When I create pieces for baptisms, first Communions or confirmations, it’s especially meaningful to me. There’s a quiet prayer in my heart with every piece I design, that it will bring smiles, peace and a sense of celebration that reflects God’s love."

Working with balloons must provide a great deal of entertainment at home, especially with three daughters and 1-year old son at home. And Delaney loves to get her children into the action.

“My kids love to ‘help’ inflate balloons — or at least chase them around the room afterward. Sometimes they offer ideas or help with colors (my 8-year-old helped me design her first Communion display). It’s fun to involve them and show them that creativity can be part of everyday life. Plus, their laughter when the balloons start flying everywhere is the best reminder of why I do what I do.”

Delaney, who just celebrated her own birthday this week, says it’s not easy shouldering a business while performing her biggest job of all, raising a family, but she has some great advice for all mothers out there who are juggling marriage, children and career.

“Give yourself grace! That’s been my mantra,” she told the Register.

“Some days are stressful, chaotic and messy, and that’s okay. I’ve learned to prioritize, delegate when I can, and set boundaries between work time and family time. I have also learned that it is okay to ask for and accept help when offered. It also helps to remember that balance doesn’t mean doing everything at once — it’s about being fully present where you are, whether that’s at work or at home."

Sage advice for a woman doing it all with faith and fortitude!
