Church Wisdom

In the 1970s, reporters knew that the Church was opposed to contraception and abortion. So they figured the Church would love in vitro fertilization. After all, it means more babies.

They were startled, and a little exasperated, to learn that no, the Church opposes this, too.

Celeste McGovern’s story in this week’s issue shows the Church is wise to teach that children shouldn’t be conceived artificially. Too many times, such children end up “test-tube orphans” who feel estranged from their fathers and unable to connect to their past. The article gives flesh to the Church’s wisdom in supporting the natural law. Save it, share it, and help change minds.
