A judge has ruled that a Christian baker not only must pay $135,000 to a lesbian couple whose wedding cake the baker refused to make but is also forbidden to speak publicly about it. You see, the bakers at Sweet Cakes by Melissa in Oregon had received many donations when their case became public.

The judge clearly didn't like the baker receiving donations online from traditional marriage advocates who support their refusal to bake a cake for a lesbian wedding ceremony so forbade them from publicizing the case. As Rachel Lu from The Federalist wrote:

...the Oregon labor commissioner, Brad Avakian, wanted to silence them because the content of their speech. Presumably he was angry that the Kleins’ defiant stance had earned them a potentially profitable reputation as heroes for religious freedom. They were meant to be humiliated and cowed; instead there was a real chance they would land on their feet. So they had to be gagged to prevent that from happening. If the First Amendment doesn’t apply to a case like this, it is meaningless.

This is head on the pike politics. This judge (who's not actually a judge) wants to make it clear that if you dare stick to your Christian principles you will pay and pay even the most exorbitant and ridiculous fines designed to punish you for your views. And to make it worse, you will be stripped of your free speech rights so that the only ones who can contribute to the narrative are those who agree with the progressive narrative.

Ironically, the Huffington Post published a piece today saying, "First and foremost, it is important to emphasize that religious conservatives need not be alarmed by this decision because your views remain fully protected by our Constitution." Uhm. Not so much, huh?

Many also point to the verbiage of the U.S. Supreme Court decision which stated, "Finally, it must be emphasized that religions, and those who adhere to religious doctrines, may continue to advocate with utmost, sincere conviction that, by divine precepts, same-sex marriage should not be condoned." Soooo...feel better? It's kinda' like when they said Roe only made abortion legal for the first trimester. Yeah, because that was true, right?

You want the good news? The good news is that Aaron Klein, one of the bakers, has vowed to fight on. Speaking about the judge in this case, he said, "He wants to silence anyone who opposes his point of view. Unfortunately, he's doing this with the wrong Christian, because I fight back."
