Video Shows Reality of Abortionists in Albuquerque as Historic Vote Nears

The Nov. 19 vote will decide whether the New Mexico city becomes the first city to ban abortion on the basis of fetal pain.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — As Albuquerque voters consider whether to ban late-term abortions in their city, the undercover reporting group Live Action has released a video, “Profits From Pain,” giving an inside view of a local late-term abortion business.

“This facility is only one of the worst examples of the abortion industry’s complete disregard for basic human rights,” Live Action's president, Lila Rose, said Thursday. “Babies shot through the heart with poison; mothers left to deliver their dead children in an empty hotel room.”

A pregnant Live Action undercover reporter scheduled a late-term abortion 25-27 weeks into her pregnancy at the Southwestern Women’s Options in Albuquerque and recorded her experience.

The pregnant woman talked with abortionist Carmen Landau, who said the abortion is performed by injecting a heart-stopping drug into the unborn child’s body.

The video comes ahead of a Nov. 19 vote on an Albuquerque city ordinance to ban abortion after 20 weeks into pregnancy, on the grounds that unborn children can feel pain at that age.

The group Protect Albuquerque Women and Children, which is backing the city ordinance restricting abortion, said the city is considered “the late-term abortion capital of the nation.”

New Mexico has some of the most lax abortion laws in the world, a fact brought up by Landau in the video, who says the state “doesn't have a lot of the restrictions” found elsewhere.

“People come from all over the country and all over the world to our clinic, because in most places, you cannot get an abortion after 24 weeks. So we see a lot of people who are pretty late in their pregnancy,” Landau stated.

Elisa Martinez, executive director of Protect Albuquerque Women and Children, told EWTN News that city residents “are energized to support and vote for the ban in the face of the medical and scientific evidence that unborn babies experience tremendous pain during these horrific late-term abortion procedures.”

In the weeks leading up to the election, abortion activists have tried to counteract support for the initiative, raising more than $200,000 for television advertisements and activism, according to the pro-life political action committee Susan B. Anthony List.

As the vote nears, Susan B. Anthony List is similarly purchasing advertisements in support of the ban on abortions past 20 weeks.

To support the grassroots effort, which began with a ballot initiative that garnered more than 27,000 signatures of support, SBA List has provided a campaign manager to assist in organizing local pro-life groups, and on Nov. 12 and 13, the group bought $100,000 in television advertisements urging Yes votes on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance.
