Notre Dame in Talks With JPII Museum

DETROIT FREE PRESS, May 1 — According to the Free Press, the financially-struggling John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington, D.C., has entered negotiations with the University of Notre Dame in an apparent attempt to save the ailing museum.

Spokespersons from both the university and the John Paul II Cultural Center confirmed that meetings were being held, but could not provide any details about the potential collaboration.

“We are negotiating with Notre Dame,” said Sandy Peeler, spokeswoman with the Cultural Center.

Nearby, Father David O’Connell, president of The Catholic University of America, said he had not been approached by officials of the center. The center, which opened in 2001, is being underwritten with $40 million from Catholics in Detroit.

Da Vinci Code Organization Proved to Be a Fraud

CBS, April 30 — A “60 Minutes” investigation has revealed that Da Vinci Code novelist Dan Brown’s mysterious secret society — the Priory of Sion — which he posits guards the supposed secret that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had children, is nothing but an elaborate hoax.

Two parchments discovered in Rennes Le Chateau, France, thought to date to the 12th century, are in fact only 40 years old. The hoax and the documents were created by Pierre Plantard and Philippe de Cherisey.

Historian Claude Charlot said that no historian has found any evidence that the Priory of Sion existed before the document created in 1956.

Charlot concluded, “In other words … what people tell us about the Priory of Sion … is sheer invention.”

Three Abortion Opponents Vying for Governor

WASHINGTON TIMES, May 1 — With the unchallenged Democrat Bill Ritter running as a gubernatorial candidate in Colorado, it’s possible that voters in the state may have a choice between three candidates whom oppose abortion, reported the Times.

Rep. Bob Beauprez and former University of Denver President Marc Holtzman are contending for the Republican nomination.

“Ritter has come to realize that choice is the holy grail issue for Democrats these days,” said Eric Sondermann, a Denver political analyst.

But in the same story, the Times revealed that Ritter isn’t pro-life after all. Ritter, while he opposes abortion, will not advance pro-life policies.

Ritter said, “I’m opposed to abortion as a matter of conscience … but our agenda doesn’t involve changing the law.”
