On June 20, 2018, the Archdiocese of New York announced that an allegation of sexual abuse by Cardinal Theodore McCarrick had been found to be “credible and substantiated,” precipitating his eventual laicization on Jan. 11, 2019. The McCarrick Report, detailing his rise and fall, was released Nov. 10, 2020.
