Youth Minister

 Purpose of Role

 The youth minister (YM) provides vision and coordination for the parish’s efforts in ministry to young people from 7th thru 12th grades with the intent of empowering young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ, drawing them to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the faith community and foster personal and spiritual growth. 

 

 Key Areas of Responsibility

 •Oversees all ministries related to Youth in grades 7-12 in accord with archdiocesan guidelines in collaboration with the Director of Religious Education (DRE). 

 •Coordinates and implements Faith Formation sessions and the Confirmation process.

 •Promotes and coordinates youth activities such as mission trips, retreats, conferences, Bible studies, fund raisers and other gatherings in the youth ministry program.

 •Promotes, develops, and coordinates youth ministry committees made up of catechist, parents, and youth. 

 •In collaboration with the DRE, recruits and trains catechists and volunteers

 •Develops a working relationship the pastoral staff and with the Archdiocesan Office of Adolescent Catechesis and Evangelization

 •Creates and executes an outreach program to evangelize the youth in our parish and outside community with engagement of other heads of ministry and area schools

 •Executes other roles and tasks as directed by the Pastor

 

 Qualifications:

 •At least 25 years of age and 2 years of youth ministry experience preferred.

 •In depth knowledge of the Catholic Faith

 •Catechist certification preferred, or willingness to work toward certificate and/or other religious education certificates. 

 •Candidate must be an active Catholic in good standing with the Church. 

 •Because youth ministry is a ministry of presence and visibility, it is preferred that the youth minister is an active member of St. Michael’s parish and lives in the nearby community

 •Must be willing to try new things and implement new programs based on the needs of the youth and parish.

 •Solid effective communication skills (oral and written)

 •Musical background is always a plus but not necessary.
