The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops will meet in Baltimore and hear reports on subjects such as the 2013-2016 New Evangelization plan, the defense of marriage, the protection of religious liberty and needed emphasis on the life and dignity of the human person. Monday’s sessions are at 10am and 2pm, and Tuesday’s are at 9am and 2pm.

This 1944 film, starring Thomas Mitchell and Anne Baxter, tells the true story of the Sullivan family of Waterloo, Iowa. Their five sons perished together on a sinking cruiser on Nov. 13, 1942. Pope Pius XII sent the young men’s parents, Thomas and Alleta, a letter of condolence and a silver medal and Rosary. The bereaved Mrs. Sullivan said, “Christ had five wounds, too.”

This new documentary, made with the cooperation of Naval Special Warfare, traces the exploits of the U.S. Navy Seals and their development from World War II’s frogmen to today’s commandos. Catholic actor Gary Sinise narrates.

A&E
In each episode of this new “docuseries,” a rehabilitated and specially trained shelter dog helps a combat veteran who has post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The dogs and the veterans support each other. The series will premiere on Veterans Day and move to 10pm Sundays starting Nov. 16. Advisory: TV-PG (language).

Brother Joseph and the Grotto

At St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman, Ala., German-born Benedictine Brother Joseph Zoettl (1878-1961) worked for decades to construct the hillside Ave Maria Grotto, where he built beautiful and accurate replicas of churches from around the globe.
