On All Souls’ Day, we commemorate the faithful departed and pray in reparation for the release of the poor souls from purgatory. The Franciscan fathers celebrate the Mass of All Souls in Our Lady of the Angels Chapel in Irondale, Ala. Mass re-airs at noon and midnight.

USCCB Fall General Assembly
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops will meet in Baltimore and hear reports on subjects such as the 2013-2016 New Evangelization plan, the defense of marriage, the protection of religious liberty and needed emphasis on the life and dignity of the human person. Monday’s sessions are at 10am and 2pm, and Tuesday’s are at 9am and 2pm.

The Fighting Sullivans
This 1944 film, starring Thomas Mitchell and Anne Baxter, tells the true story of the Sullivan family of Waterloo, Iowa. Their five sons perished together on a sinking cruiser on Nov. 13, 1942. Pope Pius XII sent the young men’s parents, Thomas and Alleta, a letter of condolence and a silver medal and Rosary. The bereaved Mrs. Sullivan said, “Christ had five wounds, too.”

Navy Seals: Their Untold Story
This new documentary, made with the cooperation of Naval Special Warfare, traces the exploits of the U.S. Navy Seals and their development from World War II’s frogmen to today’s commandos. Catholic actor Gary Sinise narrates.

Dogs of War
In each episode of this new “docuseries,” a rehabilitated and specially trained shelter dog helps a combat veteran who has post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The dogs and the veterans support each other. The series will premiere on Veterans Day and move to 10pm Sundays starting Nov. 16. Advisory: TV-PG (language).

The Suffering Church
Two documentaries from HM Television discuss the plight of Christians in Pakistan and the Middle East. On Thursday, The Jasper Wall: The Persecuted Church interviews Pakistani Christians. On Friday, At the Gates of Zion interviews Cardinal Edwin O’Brien and others about Christians in the Holy Land.

Brother Joseph and the Grotto
At St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman, Ala., German-born Benedictine Brother Joseph Zoettl (1878-1961) worked for decades to construct the hillside Ave Maria Grotto, where he built beautiful and accurate replicas of churches from around the globe.
