Pope Francis Visits Sri Lanka and the Philippines

EWTN On Jan. 13, His Holiness will address bishops, meet the president and take part in an interreligious meeting in Sri Lanka. On Jan. 14, he will say Mass and canonize Blessed Joseph Vaz (1651-1711) in Colombo and visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rosary in Madhu. On Jan. 15, he will visit Our Lady of Lanka Chapel in Bolawalana and fly to Manila. There, on Jan. 16, he will meet the president, say Mass at the cathedral-basilica and meet families. On Jan. 17, in Leyte Province in Eastern Visayas, the Pope will celebrate Mass, meet with disaster survivors, bless a center for poor people and visit clergy and religious. On Jan. 18, he will meet religious leaders and young people at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and celebrate a closing Mass. He will return to Rome on Jan. 19. The EWTN News Nightly team will cover events, with insights from EWTN’s Father Leo Patalinghug, and Raymond Arroyo will wrap up from Washington.

EWTN The theme of the 2015 March for Life against abortion is “Every Life Is a Gift!” with an emphasis on saving unborn babies diagnosed with health conditions. The Opening Mass of the National Prayer Vigil for Life will take place at 6:30pm Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, and the vigil’s Closing Mass will begin at 7:30am Wednesday. Coverage of the March for Life and its preceding rally will start at 9am Thursday. At 6pm, EWTN News Nightly will cover the march (re-airing at 9pm).
