Good Message

Facts of Life

New York Times columnist David Brooks recently released his latest book, The Road to Character. In it, he addresses the need to cultivate moral values. In a Catholic News Agency interview published May 21, Brooks explained how he admires Pope Francis because his “message is the person.”

“I like the way he handles himself, and I admire the way he behaves in matters large and small,” Brooks said. “So to me, he simply is the embodiment of being a Christian: He radiates love, radiates joy, shows mercy and shows empathy.”

“That’s the way Jesus asks Christians to live,” he added, “and Pope Francis lives that way. And so the message is the person.”
