Faith Heals the Healers

Young doctors depressed by long hours and demanding daily routines can find the cure in religious faith. According to research funded by the National Institutes of Health, spirituality and religion can counter stress and illness by focusing physicians on “salutary health-related behaviors, involvement in social networks, and establishment of a sense of coherence or meaning to life.” The study also found that young docs who lacked a strong faith “were more likely to have significant depressive symptoms.”
