Co-Ed by Fall

THE CONCORD MONITOR, Feb. 23 — St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., has announced plans to convert some dorms into co-ed facilities starting next fall. About 10% of students will live in these buildings, which the school says will be more like apartment complexes than traditional dormitories: The sexes will be partitioned by separate locked entrances. Administrators at the 118-year-old Benedictine institution also said the move will help it serve a growing and increasingly female student body. Some critics questioned that motive, charging that the school is capitulating to secular demands and downplaying its Catholic identity.
