Wallis: Abortion 'Kills' Reform

Maybe there’s a glimmer of hope that President Barack Obama’s health-care reform plans won’t include mandatory coverage of abortion.

Jim Wallis, one of the left-leaning “spiritual advisers” who has the ear of the president as a member of his Faith Council, believes inclusion of an abortion provision “will kill health-care reform.”

Wallis made the remark March 17 in an interview with Christian Broadcasting Network White House correspondent David Brody.

In a video posted here, Wallis says bluntly that he and his Sojourners organization are “against” any attempt to add abortion coverage to the health-care reform package.

And doing that would mobilize bipartisan resistance that would ensure Congress will defeat Obama’s package, Wallis predicted.

“I think there is just Republicans and Democrats, a number of people, who believe this is an issue of deep moral conviction and conscience,” Wallis said. “And there are firewalls, that if they’re breached, will really destroy common ground.”

Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Next week, the Bishops of the United States will meet in Orlando and consecrate America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This week on Register Radio we are joined by Bishop Kevin Rhoades to explain the importance of the consecration and how we can all take part and then Register senior writer Zelda Caldwell tells us about the remarkable phenomenon of diocesan priests living in community.
