New Archbishop in New York?
Over at the Newsmax website, Edward Pentin offers some interesting speculation out of Rome: The upcoming announcement of a new Archbishop of New York.
According to the report, Pope Benedict XVI has picked a replacement and will make an announcement within a week.
Cardinal Edward Egan of New York reached the mandatory retirement age of 75 in April 2007, but has remained in office since then as New York’s archbishop at the request of the Pope.
The Newsmax report does not give the name of the rumored new archbishop, but quotes a Vatican source who said he is “dynamic, conservative and orthodox.”
However, the report does suggest that Archbishop Timothy Dolan of Milwaukee may be the person who most closely fits the description given by the Vatican source.
