I Am A Neil DeGrasse Tyson Denier
Really? A famous scientist's ridiculously absurd approach to science (Smug and wrong) turns out to be the same as his approach to life (Smug and wrong.)
Neil DeGrasse Tyson, the very same scientist who completely lied about history in a recent episode of his show Cosmos, has been getting a lot of flack lately for lying. His lies about the Church went largely unremarked, but his lies about quotes have gained more traction.
In his regular presentation which he gets paid big bucks to give, he has a section in which he presents "quotes" to show just how dumb are today's politicians. Now you wouldn't think it would be too difficult to demonstrate this obvious truth, but being an ever so modern scientist, Tyson eschews actual evidence in favor of the made up kind. So much easier that way.
In this particular case, Tyson quotes George Bush in a way to make Bush look stupid (at least in Tyson's mind.) Problem is Bush never said it and there is not one shred of evidence that he did. Tyson has a history of making up stuff to make others looks stupid and by contrast, he believes, he look smarter.
Anyway, when confronted with the fabrication, this is what Tyson had to say.
I have explicit memory of those words being spoken by the President. I reacted on the spot, making note for possible later reference in my public discourse. Odd that nobody seems to be able to find the quote anywhere — surely every word publicly uttered by a President gets logged.
FYI: There are two kinds of failures of memory. One is remembering that which has never happened and the other is forgetting that which did. In my case, from life experience, I’m vastly more likely to forget an incident than to remember an incident that never happened. So I assure you, the quote is there somewhere. When you find it, tell me. Then I can offer it to others who have taken as much time as you to explore these things.
One of our mantras in science is that the absence of evidence is not the same as evidence of absence.
Get that? Tyson believes it to be true, so it must be true. The lack of evidence, well that is your problem.
Well, isn't that just like modern science? You posit a theory that fits your world view and if no evidence exists to support it? Well that is your problem DENIER!!
There is the scientific method for ya.
I think science is like love, something infrequently practiced by those who talk about it the most.
