Business Manager

Thomistic Institute, Washington DC

The Thomistic Institute seeks to hire a Business Manager to coordinate and oversee the temporal aspects of this growing apostolate, including dealing with finances, accounting, bill payments, reimbursements, contracts, and outside vendors.

The Business Manager reports to the Director of the Thomistic Institute, and works in close collaboration with the other TI staff. This is a full-time, in-office position that requires residency in the greater Washington, D.C. metro area.

Responsibilities: 

Managing and tracking budgets and expenditures.

Serving as a resource for TI staff regarding all matters financial; ensuring that staff understand and follow policies dealing with finances and expenditures.

Preparing and implementing a plan for continued improvement in internal financial procedures, accounting practices, bill payments, and expense reimbursements.

Preparing our accounts and documentation for regular budget reviews, and the financial statements for reports to the Board of Overseers, the Board of Trustees, and major benefactors.

Assisting with the annual external audit.

Managing matters related to tax exemptions, procurement, and contracts.

Oversight and day-to-day implementation of all processes dealing with bill payments, reimbursements, and other financial transactions.

Includes receiving invoices and reimbursement requests from various TI program and administrative staff, processing the claims on a timely basis, and ensuring that all necessary information is gathered and properly recorded.

Serving as the point-person for the various in-house TI computer platforms dealing with finances, accounting, bill payments, and reimbursements.

Important traits & skills:

At least a B.A. degree or its equivalent; 

Notable business or accounting experience; 

Knowledge of the Catholic intellectual tradition and motivation to spread the faith by intellectual evangelization;

Familiarity with Excel and Salesforce (a CRM database) is a significant plus;

The person holding this position will represent the TI and the Dominican friars in public, will bear witness to and teach the Catholic faith, and will at times participate in (and even lead others in) Catholic prayers. Applicants must be practicing Catholics in good standing who assent to and profess the Catholic faith in its entirety as presented in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The Business Manager will be entitled to audit one course per semester at the Dominican House of Studies during office hours. 

Salary: Commensurate with experience
