Quo Vadis

TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES Critics consider this 1951 film classic, directed by Mervyn LeRoy, to be the best of several movie versions of the famed 1895 novel Quo Vadis: A Narrative of the Time of Nero by the Polish author Henryk Sienkiewicz (1846-1916). Robert Taylor plays Marcus Vinicius, a Roman general who discovers that the slave girl he loves, Lygia (Deborah Kerr), is a Christian. Peter Ustinov is the cruel and insane Emperor Nero, Finlay Currie is St. Peter, and Abraham Sofaer is St. Paul.

American Experience: The Rise and Fall of Penn Station

PBS This documentary chronicles the design and building of Penn Station in New York City. This massive architectural wonder opened in 1910; it was designed by famed architect Charles McKim, and its support system of railroad tunnels was created by engineer Charles Jacobs. Sadly, Penn Station was demolished in the 1960s and replaced by Madison Square Garden.
