Benedict at Lourdes

Several months ago, I asked readers to help us build a special website, the Pope2008.com blog, to cover this extraordinary year in papal events. We received an overwhelming response and were able to cover papal events very well, from Washington, D.C., to Sydney, Australia.

The last major papal event of the year may well be Pope Benedict XVI’s Sept. 12-15 trip to Paris and Lourdes, France. Look to Pope2008.com for photos and videos of the beautiful events there. It is a kind of going-away present from Pope2008.com, which will end with the year.

But be on the lookout for new changes to our NCRegister.com site, where we will try to apply the lessons we learned for a new, news-oriented blog.

Palestinian Christians celebrate Easter Sunday Mass at Holy Family Church in Gaza City on March 31, amid the ongoing battles Israel and the Hamas militant group.

People Explain ‘Why I Go to Mass’

‘Why go to Mass on Sundays? It is not enough to answer that it is a precept of the Church. … We Christians need to participate in Sunday Mass because only with the grace of Jesus, with his living presence in us and among us, can we put into practice his commandment, and thus be his credible witnesses.’ —Pope Francis
