You remember little Abigail from The Chosen. The curious and intelligent 9-year-old from Capernaum first pops into the story in Episode 3 of Season 1, when she encounters Jesus camping alone in the countryside. The following day, Abby returns to introduce her new friend, the wise craftsman and teacher Jesus, to young Joshua and some other friends from the city.

Delightful little Abby is back, this time as an animated character in The Chosen Adventures, a new animated series premiering on Oct. 17. As in the original Chosen series, Abby pumps Jesus with questions: “Why do we eat chicken and not rooster?” “Why do boys smell?” And Jesus’ answers to these and other, more important questions change the way that Abby sees the world.

The Chosen Adventures follows the life of Christ, revisiting many stories from The Chosen while adding new elements that make it especially captivating for children. Abby has a talking sheep, and a pigeon that Jesus nicknames “the winged wonder.”

Many of the cast and crew from the original The Chosen series return in the cartoon version, albeit with creative (and often humorous) animated characterizations. The Chosen’s Jonathan Roumie is Jesus, and other returning actors include Paras Patel (Matthew), Elizabeth Tabish (Mary), Noah James (Andrew), George Xanthis (John), Joey Vahedi (Thomas), Yasmine Al-Bustami (Ramah), and Brandon Potter (Quintus). Banks Pierce is Hilarius Maximus, and Julian Grant is his father, head Roman centurion Cyrius Maximus.

Oh, and of course, there are the animals! Sheep is voiced by Paul Walter Hauser, and Pigeon is played by Yvonne Orji. The cast is rounded out by Jude Zarzaur (Joshua), Danny Nucci (Abba) and Zehra Fazal as the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Dallas Jenkins, executive producer, expressed his excitement about The Chosen Adventures. “It’s funny,” he said, “heartwarming, for adults as well as kids, and it appropriately captures these great stories through the eyes of a child.”

The trailer for The Chosen Adventures was released Sept. 26 and it hints at what’s to come: humor and warmth, packaged in a 14-part series that offers great stories for both adults and children. The entire series of 11-minute episodes will launch on Prime Video on Oct. 17.
