Kieran Culkin Wins Big: Baby No. 3 on the Way After Viral Oscars’ Speech
And the baby announcement is buzzing online on the actor’s 43rd birthday!
After Kieran Culkin’s Oscar speech went viral earlier this year — when he charmingly recalled a “baby bet” he and his wife had made — the internet is aflutter with the news that the couple’s third child is on the way.
And the baby announcement is buzzing online on the actor’s 43rd birthday!
Kieran’s wife Jazz revealed the big news Sunday evening at the opening night of the Broadway show Waiting for Godot, starring Keanu Reaves and Alex Winter. Yesterday, she start took to Instagram to share the news with her fans:
Saw Keanu Reeves on broadway and now I’m 9 months pregnant ♥️ this is very on brand for me. I made a deal with this baby to let me make it to this before labor, not sure what it wants in return but I’m CLEARLY a woman of my word. Such a fresh and inspired take on this play! I don’t think I’m ever going to come down from the high of seeing Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves do air guitar on stage. Cannot put into words how special it is (part pregnancy brain fog / part awe) go see it if you have the chance!
Her line about “clearly a woman of her word” refers back to a viral speech that Culkin shared on the Oscar stage earlier this year in March.
While accepting the “Best Supporting Actor” award for his role in Jesse Eisenberg's film A Real Pain, the actor, who grew up Catholic, recounted a conversation he had with his wife a year before, when he did not go home with an award.
“I love you, Jazz. This is, I have to thank my wife, Jazz, for absolutely everything, for giving me my favorite people in the world,” Culkin told the audience gathered March 2 in Hollywood during the Academy Awards.
“This is — please don’t play the music because I want to tell a really quick story about Jazz,” Culkin pleaded with the orchestra.
“About a year ago, I was on a stage like this, and I very stupidly, publicly said that I want a third kid from her because she said if I won the award, I would, she would give me the kid. It turns out she said that because she didn’t think I was gonna win, but then people came up to her and were like, you know, really annoying her, I think, I think it got to her, but anyway.”
“After the show,” Culkin said, “We’re walking through a parking lot, she’s holding the Emmy, we’re trying to find a car. Emily, you were there, so you’re a witness — and she goes, ‘I did say that. I guess I owe you a third kid,’ and I turned to her, and I said, ‘Really, I want four.’ And she turned to me, I swear to God this happened, it was just over a year ago, she said, ‘I will give you four when you win an Oscar.’ I held my hand out, she shook it, and I have not brought it up once until just now.”
“You remember that, honey? You do? Then, I just have this to say to you, Jazz, love of my life, ye of little faith. No pressure. I love you. I’m really sorry I did this again. And let’s get crackin’ on those kids. What do you say? I love you!”
The actor, who celebrates his own birthday today, lives in Brooklyn with his wife and children. Married in 2013, they currently have two children: a 5-year-old daughter Kinsey Sioux and 3-year-old son Wilder Wolf.
But with the news of another Culkin on the way, many pro-lifers are celebrating the most awesome award to come from any bet.
Brad Wilcox of the National Marriage Project sees a silver lining in this viral news, telling the Register, “For so long, there’s been a real anti-natalist message emanating from Hollywood. Kieran Culkin and Jazz Charton’s embrace of baby No. 3 is a welcome antidote.”
Lila Rose of Live Action took to social media to applaud the news, too, posting the Oscars' speech and adding:
Always a happy day to welcome the headlines of new babies being born or expected. Happy birthday, Kieran, and we'll be praying for more stories like these from Tinseltown.
