A War on Christmas? An Archbishop and a Rabbi Respond

When New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan and Rabbi Harlan Wechsler shared a live interfaith dialogue on Sirius XM Radio’s The Catholic Channel, Sunday, Dec. 20, there were video cameras there.

The attached video shares an excerpt of their discussion about the “war on Christmas.” It makes for an interesting exchange between the two religious leaders.

Archbishop Dolan doesn’t believe there is a “war on Christmas,” and Rabbi Wechsler says that from his perspective, “Christmas is everywhere.”

The program will be re-aired on The Catholic Channel (SIRIUS 159 and XM 117) on Dec. 31 (1 p.m. ET), Jan. 2 (6 a.m ET, 1 p.m. ET, 10 p.m.
ET) and Jan. 3 (9 a.m. ET, 6 p.m. ET).

You can also watch Archbishop Dolan and Rabbi Wechsler discussing the importance of community in Catholicism and Judaism and the challenges that communal religions face in a society that emphasizes individualism.

Archbishop Dolan was named archbishop of New York in April. He hosts “A Conversation With the Archbishop” every Thursday at 1 p.m. on The Catholic Channel. Dr. Harlan J. Wechsler is the founding rabbi of Congregation Or Zarua in New York City. On “Rabbi Wechsler Teaches,” Rabbi Wechsler offers historical and modern Jewish perspective on a wide range of issues and events and welcomes special guests. The show airs Sundays on SIRIUS XM Stars, SIRIUS channel 102 and XM channel 155.
