I am mystified by those who want to remove females from serving as altar servers, lectors and extraordinary ministers to the sick and elderly. Blessed John Paul II opened up this avenue and nobody can seriously label him a flaming liberal. The move was made after a long period of study. The argument that female altar servers somehow discourage males from wanting to seek the priesthood is silly; there is no empirical evidence of that, and frankly, numbers of men entering the seminary in my Diocese (Spokane, WA) have gone up in the last several years despite having female altar servers for at least 20 years.
This is a great example of some misguided individuals who think that the Church was perfect in 1952 and want to cancel Vatican II and move to something akin to the Lefevbrists.
