Maybe you’ve seen the commercials on TV in your area or online. Most people still haven’t. Everyone needs to.

Catholics Come Home, Inc. is an independent, non-profit Catholic apostolate that creates effective and compassionate media messages and broadcasts them nationally and internationally, in order to inspire, educate and evangelize inactive Catholics and others, and invite them to live a deeper faith in Jesus Christ, in accord with the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church. [...]

Each of our television commercials invites people to come to Catholics Come Home.org, where they are given the opportunity to learn (or relearn) the truth about the Catholic faith, find their local parish and return home. As our site says, coming home to the Catholic Church has never been easier!”

I still get all pumped up when I see their “Epic” movie commercial:

Check out their other videos here.

They’ve done a few campaigns now in various dioceses with great success:

“Currently, Catholics Come Home campaigns are launching in numerous archdioceses and dioceses across the United States. The results in the initial dioceses of Phoenix and Corpus Christi, Texas, prove the effectiveness of our campaigns, which bring hundreds of thousands of souls home for less than $2 per person. Most would agree that this is an amazing return on investment! This effort is critically needed in our society now.”

It’s an impressive operation from top to bottom - from the leadership team, to the marketing, to the material. And it’s all anchored by a top-notch website - which they continue to improve.

Upon visiting the website, you are given three choices: I’m Catholic, I’m not Catholic or I used to be Catholic. Depending upon your choice, the website then offers more relevant information according to where you are in your faith journey. It’s an excellent concept and more people need to know about it and share it with their friends and family.

They’ll even give a FREE copy of Rediscovering Catholicism by Matthew Kelly to anyone that wants one. Rediscovering Catholicism is one of my recent favorites and I definitely recommend it to anyone.

Go check out their site. And here’s a good article you can check out regarding the effect the Catholics Come Home campaign had in the Archdiocese of Chicago.

They’ve been running these commercials now for over a couple years…but I think they’re still just getting started. We need to continue to support the great work they are doing.

Catholics in New Media is a weekly series highlighting something particularly awesome going on in the Catholic world of new media.

What are you talking about..? There is NO ROOM for the elderly in any Catholic Church that I have seen lately…just the “Too busy to bother” button…..no time..no thought..no phone calls..no visits..And this morning on EWTN I heard a speaker give the okay word to some kinds of euthanasia…
I am confused..WHAT Church is this..? And for WHO..?

Dear Mia,

If you are a Catholic, let me ask YOU, have you been there for the Catholic Church?  Have YOU attended weekly Sunday Mass and have YOU supported your parish?  Sounds like you might not be able to get out and attend Mass.  If this is the case, then call your parish and ask them for Holy Commnunion for the homebound, but make sure that you are making every effort to attend Mass.

I have heard from people who say that they can’t go to Mass, yet they will go shopping, to the doctors, and out to restaurants.

Dear Mr. Allard,
The indictment you have sent me is pretty heavy. Do you know..I have known men who prey on women on the internet in order to obtain personal information and attack in order to gain the information they need…Of CPURSE I dont’t mean YOU would do that..but just so you know that bad things can happen when you don’t know who people are..and they MIGHT be lying…but YOU are Catholic, Aren’t you..? And of course you are not an Americsan secular Catholic..? You DO support the Holy Father FULLY..?

Dear Mia,

Yes, I am 100% Catholic and obedient to the Holy Father and to the Magesterium.  I was away from the faith for 25 years and came straight back to the fullness of the faith in the Catholic Church…. there is no greater truth.  I hope that you are also a faithful Catholic.  I have found the understanding of truth and the peace that I was searching for.

I have a website that helps the Church to celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday.  It is called www.DivineMercySunday.com .

Mr.Allard..FYI..
I graduated from The Straling Institute. I studied 3 years at The University of Dallas..under, among others, Fred Wilhelmsen. I graduated from The University of California with a B.A., 2 Masters Degrees, and a Specialist Degree. I worked at 2 Motherhouses with Mother Teresea..I taught CCD for the handicapped for years..I worked on the reservation with American Indians, in Watts with all black..and also with Japanese, European, and African. Ourf son-in-law and daughter live with us. Hde wsas permanently and totally disabled zat the beginning of the Iraqi war. BUT..he spent 3 tours there i spite of it..

My husband was permanently and totally disabled on board a ship while in the U.S. Navy. He has multiple handicaps, including epilepsy and asbestosis. I am partially sighted. I have diabetes, neuropathy, and IBS..Do you REALLY want me to attend your church..? I can have a B.M. anywhere..any time..Want that.? I am sure your fellow parishoners would LOVE it..? Right..? If you are medical..you might understand..otherwise you would be in the wise percentage who would carefully and kindly dispose of me/us…

I am glad to hear that you have such talent and competence..I will look up your site. Thank you for that information. You are very gracious..
I suppose tht you realize we are entering a period of great Spiritual Warfare..I hope you know who your enemies are,,and your friends..Vaya Con Dios, My Friend..

I have seen your website. I notice you ask for a LOT of donations..and those donations ared pretty frequent..they seem to be your entire purpose..Please send me an accurate account of your funds and where they go…just mail them to The National Catholic Register in care of me…Your authors are sort of ...um..old hat on the books you sell..and you use the National Catholic Register’s name pretty freely.
You have a LOT of pride…that is often one of the seven deadly sins…I thought I saw that in your first letter.  Good Bye..

Dear Mia,

I am hopeful that you will find a home in a Catholic parish that will minister to your family’s needs.  I want to encourage you to keep trusting in Jesus and in His Church.  You seem to have had a lot of suffering and very heavy crosses in your life.  You must be a very special person in the eyes of God for him to allow such suffering.

I think that you might have our website confused with some other website.  We don’t sell books, we didn’t mention the National Catholic Register’s name and we don’t ask for donations on all of our pages.

Trust that Jesus is ever watching over you and your family.

Trust Him with all your heart and strength.

No..It WAS YOUR website..! Did you forget something..?
No..I have no larger burdens than the rest of the world. I would just like to see more sharing among people and less lying and manipulation..instead of doing God’s work. By the way, the oil has reached Florida and is also on the east side..and is now found in Jacksonville Beach..Pretty serious, I would say..!
We will pray for you..Peace..!

Whoa!  everyone take a breath and say a prayer!  This should be a place for cooperation and growth in the Faith!  Sometimes harsh honesty is required, but never should we engage in personal attacks (especially those based on assumptions).  Let the honesty begin with ourselves looking at our own shortfalls (and strengths).  Let’s get our OWN spiritual lives straightened out.  Let’s worry about how we can be instruments of God’s Will in this world.

God grant us the serenity to ACCEPT what we can not change,
The courage to change what WE CAN,
and the wisdom to know the difference!
AMEN!

MIA and BOB,
LET’S BEGIN ANEW!
If either of you need help finding the resources you need in order to get on your way through this journey of life, please say so!

Post: “HELP me!” to this page.  I will see it and I will give you more information on how YOU can contact ME and I will do what I can for you!

I am having a rough time with my faith today.

I am a remarried Catholic, who loves the Lord, Our Lady, and the Church,  currently going through an annulment. I have a priest helping me out with it.

I want to SCREAM: “I AM TRYING TO GET THINGS RIGHT WITH THE CHURCH!!!”, but I am facing very negative attitudes from other Catholics and it’s very discouraging.  I feel I have nowhere to turn to and rejected because I made a terrible mistake in the past and have no idea what went on but automatically feel entitled to judge me and this bad time of my life .

I even go up during Communion with my son to receive a blessing from my priest and they’re outraged about that.

Please pray for me, to endure,  and to control my anger right now.

Dear Doanli,

I will keep you in my families prayers tonight.  Though I’ve never gone through one, both my mom and my sister-in-law went through and were granted annulments (both were cases of deceit about previous marital status).  I am sorry about your feelings of isolation and negativity from others in your parish.  I would highly recommend you focus on a local Catholic prayer group that offers healing and Catholic Solidarity (Cursillo, Opus Dei etc..).  Also, if the parish you are attending is your home parish from way back (people who knew back ‘in the day’), it might be better to attend a different parish for a while just so you can focus on your relationship with our Lord, and not all the ‘historic’ baggage.  Be strong and maintain faith in Christ.  These annulments are not always easy, but the Grace of God will get you through and give you the healing you need.

In Christ

Sometimes you get persecution and trials from HUMANS in Christ’s Church, Doorman.

Thank you for your prayers and kind message. :)

Hello Doanli,

That is no doubt sadly true, and it is always a wound to the Church and certainly pains our Lord.  I think of the many saints who were persecuted by those very people that should have been supporting them.  St. John of the Cross imprisoned by his own fellow Carmelites because of his attempts at reform.  Look at our own Holy Father, and how much vitriol has been directed at him by fellow priests and Bishops.  I am sorry for the wrongs done to you or anyone in Christ’s Church.

FYI, I did remember you at our families dinner prayers, and you were prayed for.

In Christ

Doanli,
I will pray for you tonight.

That’s a tough situation.  It’s too bad you are getting the brunt of other folks’ pettiness.  It may help to remember that God is not petty.  God is on our side… always cheering for us.  And if God is for us, who can be against us?!

Thank you, DH.

To set the record straight, this did not happen at my parish, but on a Catholic radio show.

A caller phoned in complaining about those who go up for blessings during Holy Communion and whether that was allowed.

I wondered “Isn’t your mind supposed to be on Christ during Communion and not on what your neighbor is doing?”

Let me tell you all, I have heard and seen a few who go up for Communion who are not Catholics, are in the situation I am in, or people who are in mortal sin.

The radio host said that we live in such a “feel good” society that people like me go up for blessings because of hurt feelings. That is not true. I have seen others do it, and I thought it was something allowed and said “why not? who would turn down a blessing!”

The bigger outrage is the ones who go up for Communion who shouldn’t.

I don’t have a problem sitting in the pews and have always obeyed not taking Communion until my annulment is worked out.

I will talk this over with my priest.

Thank you for your prayers and support. Means a lot to me! :)

I’ve seen the Coming Home commercials, and the website, and was initially *really* impressed. Especially as one coming back to the faith, myself, I definitely got that sense of pride and belonging. Unfortunately, I know others very close to me who are still apart from the Church, and I tried sending all this stuff to no avail. I guess now I know how my mom felt ;) Still, I wonder if the commercial focuses more on the Church as *institution*, with various achievements. I mean, people talk of the Eucharist, some don’t even know what this is - and there’s a lot of argument I’ve heard even debating the authenticity of the fact that the Church ‘invented’ the scientific method. But then, the only people I really know are humanists.

I think Pope Benedict XVI’s got it right, though: get to know Jesus Christ, and everything else falls into place.

CCH should explain with precision the statement in their ad that the Church invented the scientific method.  I need to know.
