Can you spend money on Sunday? Can you mow the lawn? Can you cook dinner? Can you go out to a restaurant? Can you go to a sporting event? Do you have to sit in a chair and read the Bible?
Just what can and can’t you do on Sunday?
And how can you have a positive rather than legalistic attitude toward Sunday?
How can Sunday help you grow closer to the Lord?
These are among the questions we explore in this week’s episode of the Jimmy Akin Podcast!

Hi Jimmy,
If we read the Bible closely for the answer, we find God describes “His” Sabbath(what we refer to as Saturday), in contrast to “mens” sabbaths, as being blessed, sanctified, and made holy at creation. The Jews, by the time of Christ, had finally got the idea that God was serious about the Sabbath, to the point they had “Sabbath police”(Pharisees) patrolling on that day to make sure people kept it to “their” standards. Jesus & every “Christian” for 300 years after kept “God’s” Sabbath, until the Council of Laodicea, where a group of men made Sabbath keeping illegal, out of hatred of Jews, claiming the new “Christian” Sabbath to be the opposite day of the week, the day of the sun god, Baal.
BTW Have You read Foxes book of Martyrs?** I have to ask, considering You’re Protestant background and subsequent “conversion”, if You can explain, in light of Foxes, just what scripture changed Your mind?

We can cook dinner on the Sabbath!! Men made the rules and they would never tell us we couldn’t!
Theophile, you are so mistaken. Even the bible mentions the Lord’s Day, which was Sunday, the day our Lord rose again. Go research the early Church fathers. Those would be the ones taught by the Apostle’s,passing down the Traditions hundreds of years before there was a bible.
Have a blessed Sunday.
The God who had cursed Adam ” ...With the sweat on your face , you will eat your bread, until you return to clay” had ordained that we should rest on the Sabbath , that is once in seven days.Rest is necessary for the body and soul to be healthy. Another aspect is that the employer shall not exploit the employees with all work and no rest. However modern man has no time for anything other than his work and thereby he amasses wealth, loses health and quality family life. Whose fault is it? We are responsible for this situation because we do not heed to God’s commands
When comments are given and the image is correctly typed, why do you say ” It is not as printed and error happened. This is not understood
God had cursed Adam and said ” You shall work and by the sweat of your brow you shall eat till you return to the earth” The same God instituted the Sabbath and gave the lesson of rest. Modern man has no time for this rest because he works all day to earn his livelihood or to amass wealth. Our God , the all knowing God wants us to take rest as it will be good for the health of our body and soul. It is not to be taken in the religious spirit only but in the human labour spirit also
Refrain from posting so much or long posts. (Well, looks like I blew this one earlier today! LOL)
I have no way of listening to the pod casts so I wish someone would type it up.
I live alone, if I do not cook, do laundry, etc. it simply doesn’t get done. It is very hard not to do household work on Sundays. Being unemployed I am trying very hard not to reply to a job posting, let alone go through my emails on Sundays. Let alone trying to find a job where weekends aren’t required.
I am trying very hard to just do my “hobbies” on Sunday but it is very difficult.
