WASHINGTON (EWTN News) — A new campaign in Washington this Advent encourages holiday shoppers to remember the true meaning of Christmas and invite them to grow closer in a relationship with Christ.

Christmas “is the time in which the Christian community shares the greatest love story in the world: the story of God’s love for his people,” said Susan Timoney, assistant secretary of pastoral ministry and social concern for the archdiocese.

Timoney explained that a new website extends an invitation to enter into a relationship with Jesus during the Christmas season by participating in a community of prayer, service, learning and celebration.

The website, FindthePerfectGift.org, is part of a new initiative to keep Christ in Christmas in the Washington, D.C., area.

Twelve thousand yard signs prompting people to “Find the Perfect Gift” were distributed throughout the archdiocese for the start of Advent on Nov. 27.

In addition, the campaign is making use of newspaper, television and radio advertisements to encourage people to visit the website.

A corresponding Spanish campaign, “Regalo Perfecto,” promotes the website RegaloPerfecto.org.

Visitors to the websites will find links to various Christmas events throughout the archdiocese. The events are open to all people who wish to celebrate the Christmas season with sacred music, service and prayer.

The websites will also feature links to Catholics parishes in the archdiocese and information about their Mass times.

The campaign logo features an image of the Wise Men being led by the Christmas star on their voyage to find the Baby Jesus.

Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington explained that Christmas is about Jesus showing “the greatness of his love.”

At the heart of Christmas, he said, is the experience of what Jesus came to bring us and “how we make that gift to us a gift to those around us.”
