Priest Forgives Attacker
CNN’s website is currently featuring a dramatic story about how Father Michael Massaro has extended forgiveness to a mentally ill woman who stabbed him Saturday in a confessional at his church.
Father Massaro had just finished hearing confessions at Holy Cross Church in Vero Beach, Fla., when the woman stabbed him twice in the back, narrowly missing vital organs.
Father Massaro has already forgiven his attacker and he told CNN the incident won’t deter him from returning to the confessional.
“We’re at the mercy of the people we serve,” Father Massaro said. “We can’t live in fear. God has asked us to live in trust. If it’s going to happen again, it’s going to happen again, but that’s not going to prevent me from doing God’s work.”
