Francis Castellano is the commanding officer of the destroyer USS Bainbridge, which led the Navy rescue operation that freed Capt. Richard Phillips from Somali pirates on Easter Sunday.

Cmdr. Castellano is also a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

And the man whose rescue he coordinated, Capt. Phillips, is a fellow Catholic, as reported here on the Daily Blog on Easter Monday.

Go here to read a profile of Cmdr. Castellano, titled “Hero on the High Seas.” It’s posted in the “Newsworthy Dads” section of the Fathers For Good website, operated by the Knights of Columbus.

People Explain ‘Why I Go to Mass’

‘Why go to Mass on Sundays? It is not enough to answer that it is a precept of the Church. … We Christians need to participate in Sunday Mass because only with the grace of Jesus, with his living presence in us and among us, can we put into practice his commandment, and thus be his credible witnesses.’ —Pope Francis
