Archbishop Dolan Video

The New York Post has posted this video of an interview it conducted yesterday with Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York.

In the interview, he discusses how the Church addresses abortion, Notre Dame’s decision to honor Barack Obama, the sexual abuse scandal and the campaign to redefine marriage legally as including homosexual unions.

Archbishop Dolan stresses that the Church deals with difficult issues like abortion and marriage with a constructive message, not merely by specifying that some actions are gravely immoral.

“We believe that human beings are ‘hardwired’ with a sense of right and wrong. It’s sort of in our DNA, and there are certain things that deep down we just know, because nature and nature’s God has implanted that sense within us,” Archbishop Dolan explained about why the Church teaches, on the basis of natural law, that marriage can occur only between a man and a woman.

“Hardwired into us is a dictionary, and the dictionary defines marriage as between one man, one woman for life, please God, leading to the procreation of human life,” Archbishop Dolan added. “And if we begin to tamper with the very definition of marriage, then we’re going to be in big trouble. We’re not anti-gay — we’re pro the most basic definition of marriage.”
