The ACLU wants to stop a Massachusetts city from installing 10-foot-tall statues of the patron saints of police officers and firefighters on a new public safety building. The nation’s highest court may have to resolve the dispute.
Alliance Defending Freedom said Dec. 17 that the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families ‘will no longer exclude Christian and other religious families from foster care’ because of their ‘commonly held beliefs that boys are boys and girls are girls.’
State trial court judge says St. Michael and St. Florian statues ‘patently endorse Catholic beliefs.’ The mayor says the city will appeal.
But critics of the planned statues of St. Michael and St. Florian say they impermissibly favor Catholicism over other religions.
