Say the following prayer for religious liberty that the bishops have asked us to pray — and share the prayer with 14 friends:
Almighty God, Father of all nations,
For freedom you have set us free in Christ Jesus (Gal 5:1).
We praise and bless you for the gift of religious liberty,
the foundation of human rights, justice, and the common good.
Grant to our leaders the wisdom to protect and promote our liberties;
By your grace may we have the courage to defend them, for ourselves and for all those who live in this blessed land.
We ask this through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, our patroness,
and in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
with whom you live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. - Follow The Catholic Association on Twitter at @CatholicsAsOne.
- Donate $14 to your favorite Catholic institution (whether a charity, school, hospital) threatened by the HHS mandate "fine on faith." See here for a list of just some of the institutions suing the Obama Administration. Catholic institutions such as these are facing fines of $100 per employee per day.
- Let 14 friends know how your favorite Catholic institution is threatened by the mandate. The HHS mandate's "fine on faith" is $100 per employee per day. Employers like the Archdiocese of Washington, DC or the University of Notre Dame will face fines of millions of dollars per year for noncompliance. Watch this video from the Archdiocese of Washington to learn more.

- Pray a decade of the rosary for religious freedom.
- Let 14 friends know about these other threats to religious freedom that our bishops have outlined in their recent document, "Our First, Most Cherished Liberty."
- Offer up one sacrifice today for the intention of religious freedom. The bishops have called for both prayer and fasting.
- Send out a tweet or a Facebook post at noon EST on the 4th of July with the words, "I Stand for Religious Freedom #Fortnight4Freedom" in synch with the nationwide coordinated ringing of church bells on the 4th of July.
If each of us do a little for this important and pressing issue, together we will accomplish a lot. And we'll send a message to the government and to all Americans that we will not acquiesce to anything that infringes upon our religious freedom. We will not compromise on them, nor are our threats of action empty. This fight is not going away until we win. It is as simple as that.

I will invite 14 or more family members and friends to attend Holy Mass at noon on July 4 since they will be available. I will provide copies of a variety of handouts to as many as I can. I have seen For Greater Glory 3 times and have encouraged others to see it and I will go once a week as long as it is playing locally and may go out of the area to continue support. Thank you for all you do God bless you all.

I would add that we speak out for the religious freedom of the Director of Priests for Life, Fr. Frank Pavone, exiled in Amarillo, Texas for an indefinite period of time by Bishop Zurek who claimed Fr. Pavone mishandled the funds of the ministry. Fr. Pavone is a priest in good standing, so they say, yet without a trial and without the courtesy of details to Americans, Fr. Pavone is held in a small room, denied freedom to travel, cannot receive mail at his exiled cell, and all this and more without a trial. Furthermore, Bishop Zurek wrote letters to all U S bishops to stop supporting Priests for Life ministry. Anyone who has been involved in pro-life work knows Fr. Pavone’s contributions and cannot count the many ways he has assisted women and the unborn. If he is ‘guilty’, what are the details? True Civil law and Church law are never in opposition. The handling of this matter is not hinged on Church Law, I dare say. There has been no precedence to detain a priest in this matter. How can a bishop smear the character of a priest, claim the priest charged is in good standing, yet to be treated as guilty? This is not American Justice. What’s more I’m shocked at the ‘silence’ of the media and American people to allow Fr. Pavone to be administered these severe restricts of freedom without demanding judicial proceedings.
The Catholic Daughters at St. Thomas Aquinas in Sugar Land had the Prayer for Religious Liberty printed up as prayer cards to distribute to parishioners as they leave the Masses this weekend. That way they have the prayer to say at home each day.
We already had the cards put in the chapel for the weekday Mass recitation, and we said the prayer at Saturday morning Mass.
Our pastor also had the prayer copied to put in the back of the missalettes so it could be said during the weekend Masses. He also extended our regular 12 hour adoration time to 24 hour perpetual adoration for the length of the Fortnight for Freedom.
I’m going to Alabama with some friends on a retreat June 30-July 6 and will say rosaries and chaplets all the way from Houston to Birmingham.
I am so joyful that our Cahtolics are really getting into this! The media can black this out all they want but they can’t keep our prayers from God.
We have witnessed in the U S the right of people to practice, print and teach what is opposed to the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. Tolerance became a virtue over any other virtue. Those allowed to spurn the ex cathedra Papal pronouncements and the infallible protection of the Teaching Authority, the Vicar of Christ in the Catholic Church have led this nation into relativistic opinions on faith and morals reducing the nation to moral nihilism and atheism. This is confirmed as is witnessed by actions once considered to be a sin is currently practiced as a right. Right has become wrong and wrong has become a right with a total disconnect from the proper teaching of the Catholic Church. No nation, no people have a right to teach error, to teach that which opposes the Church Christ instituted. Sacred Tradition is not honored in this novel concept of “religious freedom’. Religious freedom is not a Catholic concept and I challenge anyone, most of all Matthew Warner who presented this column, to prove its right to exist according to Sacred Tradition, according to the Deposit of Faith in the Catholic Church.
Joe is exactly the reason a wall needs to separate religion from government.
Dan, if you boldly make such a statement than please be prepared to defend your position with Catholic doctrine. Otherwise, you follow in the footsteps of they who want to destroy Catholicism.
If female Americans TRULY value their FIRST AMENDMENT CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS OF BOTH RELIGION AND OVER THEIR OWN BODIES, THEY WOULD BE BETTER OFF JOINING THE ACLU.
WHY? THE MISOGYNIST, FEMALE HATING ROMAN CLERGY WOULD LIKE nothing better THAN TO DEPRIVE all FEMALE AMERICAN CITIZENS OF THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL/CIVIL RIGHTS OVER THEIR OWN BODIES—including, but not limited to THE RIGHT TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES ABOUT USING BIRTH CONTROL AND/OR HAVING AN ABORTION IF THE CIRCUMSTANCES WARRANT IT. THE BISHOPS SEEK TO DEPRIVE all AMERICAN FEMALES OF THEIR RIGHTS.
BLUNTLY STATED, THE MISOGYNIST CLERICS OF THE ROMAN CHURCH DO not HAVE A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO DICTATE TO AMERICAN FEMALES WHAT/HOW TO BELIEVE AND—OF COURSE, much less WHETHER OR NOT WHAT ACTIONS/BELIEFS, ETC THEY must ENGAGE IN….
Historian, tell your story to the 60 plus nations around the world that are literally sliding off the face of the earth because of these anti-life attitudes. Tell your spin to the grandmothers and grandfathers praying for grandchildren, but they observe a new generation too selfish to sacrifice for the needs of raising a family. Tell your wonderful theories to the social security recipients who are being underfunded and denied health care because there are less and less working to support aging countries such as the U S. Yes, and tell that also to the inconveniet baby who has no right to breathe because of the generation that wants to be taken care of from cradle to grave and have not the back bone to dig out their existence on their own but wants to be coddled in each of their selfish seasons. Face the facts, Historian. The greatest resource, the greatest asset of any nation are its people. Even money in the countries with a dangerously declining population rate such as Japan, such as Russia cannot convince women to have babies. BTW, even the UN recognizes the connection of birthcontrol pills to be cancer causing that you so adamantly believe is such a wonderful right.
HISTORIAN - The Church is not depriving anyone of anything. Why should the Church (or anyone - for that matter) be forced to provide something to somebody that goes against our conscience?
You really need to read up on this issue a bit more. The Church is not mandating anything. It is the fed government doing the mandating. It is the fed gov FORCING Catholic to do something against our conscience. It is the fed gov DICTATING what it believes somebody else should do. It is the fed gov DEPRIVING me and other Catholics the right to practice our faith by forcing us to do things, support things and provide services that go against our beliefs.
You got it all backwards. Aside from that, the Church does nothing but state the Truth on these matters of abortion, contraception, etc. They have not tried, nor advocated for being able to control what anyone else does or believes. It is Barack Obama and his administration and fellow democrats who have done precisely that.
Matthew Warner, you obviously understand that a nation that opposes the laws of God will never thrive. Thank you for your passionate plea in the correction of Historian’s anti-life attitude which is anti-Catholicism. Historian could be one of the teachers in the parochial schools who favor the use of birth control. Very few do believe birth control is a sin according to studies. Or Historian could be one of the parents who pleaded with the U S bishops to implement sex education in co-ed classrooms in spite of Pontiffs condemning it. According to the Alan Guttmacher of the Guttmacher Institute, sex education secures abortion. Matthew Warner, can you please explain why sexualized education is mandated in parochial schools?
TO THOSE WHO WANT TO BURY THEIR HEADS IN THE SAND AND TRY TO DENY THAT MISOGYNIST CATHOLIC CLERICS hate females: NAME, if you CAN, ONE, JUST one, female who has been ordained as a priest, MUCH LESS A BISHOP AND/OR BETTER.
THE FACT IS: YOU CAN’T.
LIKE IT OR NOT, THE ROMAN CHURCH hates women, PERIOD.
WHY DON’T YOU PEOPLE GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF THE SAND AND demand THAT CLERICS WHO HAVE RAPED AND MOLESTED INNOCENT YOUNG PEOPLE BE DEFROCKED, LABELED AS WHAT THEY ARE—SEXUAL PREDATORS—AND TREATED AS SUCH…...including hierarchy WHO HAVE OPENLY TRIED TO HIDE THE CRIMINAL ACTIONS OF THE SEXUAL PREDATORS….........
THERE IS AN OBVIOUS CORRELATION BETWEEN THE MISOGYNIST HATRED OF FEMALES AND/OR THE BRAZEN GALL OF SEXUAL PREDATORY CLERGY TO RAPE AND MOLEST CHILDREN!
HISTORIAN - there’s no need to yell.
First, your example doesn’t make any sense. That’s like asking us to show you a man who has given birth to a baby. It’s a physical impossibility (just as women priests are a spiritual impossibility). The Catholic Church has no more control over the existence of a woman Catholic priest as it does over the existence of a pregnant man. So of course, that is not proof at all that the Church “hates” women. On the other hand, you have to look no further than the way the Church reveres Mary to see what we think of women. Saying the Catholic Church hates women is utter nonsense.
And if you’d like more on what I think about the Catholic abuse scandal, I wrote a post here on that which addresses a number of the things you said: http://fallibleblogma.com/index.php/a-catholic-response-to-the-sex-abuse-scandal/
God bless.
Hey, Matthew!
YOU ARE THE ONE WHO DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE!
OBVIOUSLY, YOU are going to hem and haw because YOU CAN’T PRODUCE EVEN one FEMALE PRIEST, BISHOP, ETC.
YOUR HATRED AND MISOGYNY ARE SHOWING!
TO MATTHEW, ET. AL. AND/OR ALL THE other FEMALE-HATING MISOGYNISTS:
IF you ENCOUNTER A FEMALE VICTIM OF MALE-ORIENTED ILLEGAL CRIMINAL ACTIONS LIKE RAPE AND INCEST, JUST why DO YOU BELIEVE THAT you HAVE A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO condemn THE VICTIM OF MISOGYNIST MALE CRIMINAL ACTIONS?
YOUR HATRED OF FEMALES IS OBVIOUS: A VICTIM WHO HAS BEEN forcibly RAPED BY A MALE BOYFRIEND/FAMILY MEMBER must BEAR THE RAPIST’S FETUS/!@#$%. WITH FEMALE HATING MISOGYNISTS LIE you, ITS not ABOUT THE MISOGYNIST MALE ILLEGAL VIOLENCE against THE FEMALE VICTIMS OF MISOGYNIST MALE CAUSED CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES, THE WHOLE ARGUMENT IS THAT THE SAME MALE MISOGYNISTS WHO COMMITTED THE CRIMINAL ACTS to begin with, HAVE A RIGHT TO DENY THE FEMALE VICTIMS’ RIGHTS OVER THEIR OWN BODIES…
OBVIOUSLY, you NEED TO BE EDUCATED CONCERNING MISOGYNIST, FEMALE HATING MALES WHO COMMIT CRIMINAL ACTIONS AGAINST FEMALES…...IDIOT!
RAPE IS A CRIME. INCEST IS A CRIME. FEMALES do HAVE A CONSTITUTIONAL/CIVIL RIGHT TO GET RID OF UNWANTED PREGNANCIES—AND, THE RIGHT TO FILE LEGAL ACTIONS against THEIR RAPISTS AND MOLESTERS.
IF you DON’T LIKE IT, CONSULT AN ATTORNEY AND LEARN THE BASICS!
Historian, What about the life of the child within the mother’s womb?
Mother’s have been granted the right to give life to their unborn baby or to murder them? No other segment of society has been granted the ‘right’ to designate life or death to another segment of society. Just because one can do an action does not mean one should perform the action. The means to the end is never justified in an abortion.
The right to abortion is an unnatural law and because of it, mothers always experience psychological and physical consequences without excception, some of which are: abortion causes cancer; many have died during the unneeded procedure; women are unable to be motherly to subsequently born children; it’s a horror of an experience; women who abort hate their femininity; many women cannot get pregnant again; clinics are not clean; staff people lie to women about the facts; women often get raped on the abortionist’s table; abortion is a very dangerous procedure…...... Healing and forgiveness of abortion can only come from making a sincere confession to a credible priest not only by the mother but also by any who forced or assisted in the killing of the unborn child.
Historian, you sound like you have been tramatized. I caution you on where to go for assistance, but assistance you must seek out. Seek a caring, understanding, gentle and most of all prayerful person. God is merciful and He wants all to be with Him in Eternity, but first we must desire Him above all else.
Historian, I can feel your pain. You must have been hurt deeply. There is evil in this world. God did not plan it that way. His plan was for each person to want only the best for the other per person. That is the definition of love—to want the best for another. I want the best for you. The bitterness you feel can be healed. If it is not, it will eat you alive. Are all priests and bishops men? Yes. Why? Because when they stand before the people and consecrate the bread and wine changing it into the body and blood of Jesus, they are Jesus at that moment. When Jesus was on the earth, his first miracle was to turn water into wine—a precursor to the miracle performed in every Mass. As a woman, I cannot become a man in order to perform that miracle. Therefore, I cannot be a priest. That does not mean I am not a part of the Church. I serve as a lector, extraordinary communion minister, and even a server when there are no young people available. But, you are not interested in all that. Have there been bad priests? Yes. Jesus said there would be wolves in sheep’s clothing. Thousands of young communist men were recruited to become priests to discredit the Church. They did their job well. There are now very strong measures to prevent future abuses. However, to generalize that Catholic men “hate” women is not true. I was raped when I was younger. I hated all men because of it for years. The protestant counselors I went to would imply that I must have done something to cause the rape. BULL! It wasn’t until I became Catholic that I truly was able to forgive and be forgiven. What a load off of my spirit. Now I am free to love—want the best for the other person. The best is Jesus. I pray that you will be able to receive God’s love and His forgiveness.
Try as I may, it remains a mystery to me how any can attempt to justify abortion as promoting the rights of women, when more than half of the babies killed are little girls.
I liked the “one simple action a day” plan—thank you, MW.
I think the Church needs to continue working toward making this world a place where no woman would ever have to choose not to have a child. We need to keep in the front of our minds the lessons taught in the beatitudes. After all, that is what we will be judged on. We need to elect officials who are broad minded enough to not be one issued, but be fair minded when it comes to economic issues. We need to create a world where basic needs are available to all. The Church could easily help the world remember this KINDER message. We might be losing our way, when we are putting all our energy into the one and angry message, that is also so mean spirited, when it comes to the way we disagree with President Obamas’ polices. We should be concentrating our efforts on helping the poor and disenfrancised.
Historian: It is the Catholic women who provide the Church with priests, Bishops and Popes! What greater role could we ask for in our beloved Church! Throughout history, “Historian”, Catholic women have had a definite influence in our Church. The most revered and loved human being, cherished above all saints in our altars, is a Woman!
I think “HISTORIAN” must be the same one that sent that hatefull email to Teresa Tomeo ALL IN CAPS - She, like many other thousands of women, have been fooled by the pro-choice feminist agenda . It’s so sad. We should pray for her and people like her that are misinformed, missguided and lost. What people like Historian don’t seem to get is that the abortion industry is the one making it easy on rapists and child molesters because never are these crimes reported. Instead all is kept a secret. The abortion industry has also helped in allowing women to be used as sex objects by giving them birth control. There is a lot of work to be done to heal society from all these evils. May God protect us and lead us in this journey.
Just what we need; another buck-raising campaign so the usual members of the Order of the Most Righteous Holy Patriotic Ones can wave their bloody shirts for the next (who knows how many decades) to rake in more bucks from the great unsuspecting millions. How original.
Recall that the arch segregationists promised to thwart all the gains of the Civil Rights movement, and when they realized that was a goner, they switched to abortion. That turned out to be a gold mine for that bunch of shirt wavers. How many lives did you guys really save since 1973? And what a spectacle put on by the latest bunch of shirt-waving hypocrites in early 2011 when the newly arrived Tea Partiers plus their idol, Mike Pence stripped Planned Parenthood, not of its abortion bucks, but the money for non-abortion related activities ... on the grounds that money’s fungible. Oh it is. But how many right wing outfits, causes and flops involved interchanging fungible sums they chose not to examine; especially on Wall Street?
They don’t give a rip about our civil liberties now any more than they gave one about that other gold mine, abortion. They’ll pass ridiculous laws they know will die in the Senate or on the President’s desk, strut around and say, “Nyahhhh, we told you so ... it’s all their fault” when in fact this grandstanding over made up issues is all part of the GOP great distraction and economic destruction campaign to get Pres. Obama booted. What they’ll replace with ... Romney, plus W on ‘roids. If you loved the last few wars we put on the credit card and of course, Great Recession, you’ll love the Mega Implosion. But won’t you feel great knowing what a great Patriotic Catholic you’ve been by giving your money over to some of the worst examples of religious hucksterism around. If you find Ralph Reed hovering around this campaign, you’ll know the fungible factor’s very much alive and well; just like that ol’ time mix of Mammon n’ Martial Music.
Hello, I read about “The Jericho March” that the Filipinos did before the Presidential election of. 2010. They prayed on the main office of the Commission of Elections in Manila, just as Israel did in Joshua’s time. This resulted in the election of a new president, Ninoy Aquino, Jr. We need to do this starting right now to all the polling places all over the world_ including the US military bases abroad. We also need to anoint the area with holy water and holy oil. When you are in line to vote, bring a small bottle of holy oil/ water and spritz and pray while you are doing it. We need to ask all Catholics/Christians around the world to pray in unity with us. In addition, we need to do what Niniveh had done during the time of Jonah, where upon hearing the preaching of Jonah, the king of Niniveh asked everyone, even the animals to pray, fast, cover themselves with ashes. We need to pray for conversion for all people, fasting, abstinence, sacrifices, penance. We need to pray the Rosary just as it was in the Battle of Lepanto, and the chaplet of the Divine Mercy. We are not alone_ God will prevail, but we need to do our part. We also need to pray for the consecration of Russia by the Holy Father, in unity with all the bishops, archbishops, cardinals all over the world in obedience to Our Lady of Fatima’s request. The persecution of the church has been prophesied by Sister Lucy as revealed to her by Our Lady of Fatima and Jesus, as well as some visionaries, such as the visionary in Conyers, GA, Nancy Fowler, who just died early this year (RIP).
The consecration of Russia will happen when enough people are praying the Rosary each day as Our Blessed Mother asked at Fatima. The Rosary and the Brown Scapular will conquer evil.
Is someone monitoring these blogs? I am disheartened that there is so much cursing and bad mouthing!
Anna Marie Karns - Matthew Warner’s discussions often times are inappropriate for this setting. I’ve p;ondered what might be his agenda. Possibly he wants to prove that the conciliar church opposes Divine order.
There will always be bad apples between the good ones, it is better to ignore such people. Lets pray for the enemies of the Catholic church
I do not Facebook Twitter or Tweet.
Living in the state of California there is no recourse to
write or call our Congressment they are riding the same train.
But I can pray, say a decade of the rosary and trust in God.
I live in California too, and I just pray, pray, pray, God will help us out.
True prayer always leads to action. One action is to recognize that the Catholic Church does not teach religious freedom. You may think it ‘sounds’ good but it leads to anarchy and hatred against God.
The Popes tell us why. Religious liberty was condemned by:
*Pope Pius VII in Post Tam Diuturnas,
*Pope Gregory XVI in Mirari Vos,
*Pope Pius IX in Quanta Cura,
*Pope Leo XIII in Libertas Praestantissimum.
Religious liberty also contradicts the royalty of Jesus Christ in society as expressed in Quas Primas of Pope Pius XI, and the constant attitude and practice of the Church with regard to civil society.
God bless Joe, I will be praying for you too.
