Good Fridays: Apps, Videos and the Pope's Home

Friday, March 04, 2011 1:00 PM Comments (3)

It’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these…but here’s a bunch of good stuff (mostly involving new media) going on in the Church:

A Day in the Life of Pope Benedict - This is awesome. CatholicTV and Fr. Reed take you behind-the-scenes in a day in the life of the Pope. So cool.

Archdiocese releases their own iPhone app - I think this is the first diocese to have their own iPhone app. It’s very well done (I just downloaded it). And neat to see dioceses using mobile apps to connect better with the flock.

Someone is Wrong on the Internet - I’ve always loved this cartoon…as it, sadly, hits close to home. Here are some great tips to help you out when you come across the rare occurrence of somebody being wrong on the internet.

We Feedback - Feed hungry children the food you give up for Lent. This is a neat idea and may help inspire you this Lent.

Adopt-A-Priestess Project - I great way to combat confusion in the Church: Prayer.

“Tell Congress” Video Contest - This might be a worthy weekend project for you. Create a video to help inform people of what Planned Parenthood has been up to and why they should be defunded. Support a great cause and maybe win some cash at the same time.

Reel Love Challenge Winners - Check out the winners from this recent contest promoting life-long love.

Word On Fire on the iPhone - There is a new iPhone app that keeps up with Fr. Barron and all that Word On Fire is up to.

Confession App - And in case you missed it, the first iPhone app with an Imprimatur! And a good guide to aid you in going to Confession.

Discovering Christ - An interesting program for Catholic evangelization. Seems like maybe a good program for enabling parishioners to invite friends and family back to church. Something that would then feed an RCIA or revert catechesis course.

2011 About.com Catholicism Readers’ Choice Awards Finalists - Vote Now!

Amazing Youth Room - Check out this amazing youth room at St. Thomas parish in the Diocese of Amarillo.  Very, very impressive and a parish who knows how to invest in the future of the Church.

Knights of Columbus Museum - I didn’t know about this. Pretty cool.

I’ll end with this amazing World Youth Day promo video highlighting 26 years of World Youth Days:

Have a good Friday and a great weekend everyone!

Good Fridays is a periodic series highlighting some good things going on in the Church - especially those using new media or innovative ideas to more effectively live out the mission of the Church. Please email or tweet me with any such things you’d like to see here!

Matthew - thanks for the link to the “Adopt-A-Priestess” project at my blog.  There are a handful left on my list that need a spiritual prayer warrior, so if anyone’s interested, come on over.

(and if there ends up being more pray-ers than pray-ees, I’ll just go through a list a second time)

Thanks for the plug for the iPhone App - we’re hoping to be able to help other dioceses do similar things, too :)

The gift to be at World Youth Day. What a blessing. Please don’t miss this event.
