The day “answers the intimate need to praise the Lord more solemnly and to thank him for the great gift of consecrated life.”
Pope Francis has asked Catholics to pray in a particular way in the month of February for religious sisters and consecrated women.
“Ecclesial communion is … characterized by a diversity and a complementarity of vocations and states in life … Because of this diversity and complementarity every member of the lay faithful is seen in relation to the whole body and offers a totally unique contribution on behalf of the whole body.” —Pope St. John Paul II
Demonstrating Pope Francis’ increased attention to putting women in leadership within the Vatican, the appointments follow the 2014 nomination of Sr. Irma Luzia Premoli, superior general of the Comboni Missionaries, as a member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
Year of Consecrated Life concludes: ‘How beautiful is it when we encounter the happy face of consecrated persons, perhaps already advanced in years like Simeon or Anna, content and full of gratitude for their vocation,’ the Holy Father said on Feb. 2.
Mass, a meeting with Fidel Castro and meetings with Cuban youth and consecrated men and women highlighted the first full day.
