Pope Prays for Peace

The Vatican’s YouTube site has posted some videos of Pope Benedict XVI’s visit on Sunday to Montecassino.

St. Benedict of Nursia, the founder of Western monasticism, is buried at the monastery of Montecassino.

In this video, the Pope prays for peace at a memorial to Polish soldiers who died there in World War II during fighting between Allied forces and Nazi Germany troops that were occupying Italy.

Said the Pope, “Grant those who yet suffer for the blind violence of fratricidal wars the strength of hope that does not fade, so that the man of our time may understand that the gift of peace is much more precious than any corruptible treasure.”
