Next Encyclical Almost Ready?

Britain’s Catholic newspaper The Tablet reports Pope Benedict XVI’s encyclical on social issues is now complete and is being translated into several languages ahead of its formal release.

No date was given by The Tablet for the release of the papal document. Vatican sources said last fall the encyclical, which was almost complete, had been delayed so that the Pope could include a section addressing the current global economic crisis.

“The new social encyclical … can be an instrument to help politics recover its function: that of designing the architectural structures of our social life in the way of justice, freedom, truth and solidarity,” Bishop Giampaolo Crepaldi, secretary of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, told Vatican Radio, The Tablet reported in its May 28 article.
