C-FAM's Petition for Life

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights will celebrate its 60th anniversary on Dec. 10.

Abortion and anti-family lobbyists don’t want to grant it a graceful passage into its golden years, however.

For many years, these activists have lobbied to redefine the foundational international human-rights document to eradicate its implicit recognition of the right to life of the unborn, and its explicit recognition of parental rights based on marriage between one man and one woman.

And life and family advocates at the United Nations expect abortion activists to submit a petition — timed to coincide with next month’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights celebrations — in support of their attempted redefinition of international human-rights law.

What can supporters of the sanctity of human life and of the family do to counteract such lobbying? Sign this electronic petition, being circulated by the Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute.

The petition calls for “All governments to interpret the Universal Declaration of Human Rights properly such that:

— Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person (Article 3)

— Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family (Article 16).

— The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State (Article 16).

— Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance (Article 25).

— Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children (Article 26).”
