From the Vatican Insider article, “Orthodox Church Introduces Orthodox Dress Code”: “Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, head of the Moscow Patriarchate Synod for Church and Society Affairs, . . . declared that women wearing miniskirts and who were drunk have only themselves to blame if they are raped.”
Rape is a vicious and inexcusable crime, whether perpetrated by an adult male against an adult female, or by an adult against a minor. No responsible person would place the onus for its commission upon the victim, any more than it would ever be justifiable to state, “if a man uses foul language in public, he has no one but himself to blame if in response, a bystander throws battery acid in his face.”
No, no, no! And no!
Blame for such hateful assaults rests solely upon the perpetrator, not on the victim.
Shame on Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin for making so ignorant a remark, shame on him for implying that victims of sexual assault are to be blamed, and shame on Vatican Insider for printing his indefensible statement as is, without editorial clarification.
Breastfeeding is all well and good but not in church during Mass. A woman pulled out her breast in full view to breastfeed her child. Natural, yes. Appropriate, no.
