I wish they would stop that silly custom of lifting the hem of the celebrant’s chasuble. Why is it done?
From what I understand, it is an ancient custom of the servers “helping” the priest elevate the host. The priest needed help doing this back when the chasubles were much larger, heavier, and encrusted with gems and precious metals.
