Daughters of St. Paul Being Sued by The Church of Scientology
The Church of Scientology in Italy is reportedly beginning legal proceedings against the Daughters of St. Paul and author Maria Pia Gardini.
Gardini wrote the 2007 book, “My Years in Scientology,” and the 2009 book, “The Courage to Speak Out – Stories of Ex-Scientologists,” both published by the Daughters of St. Paul.
Gardini returned to Catholicism after being a member of The Church of Scientology and its Sea Org elite. The books are part of a growing number being written by ex-members of The Church of Scientology cult.
“We live in a free country and a publisher has the obligation to be as accurate and as steadfast as possible, because it is not a crime to report the facts when they exist and can be documented,” said a spokesperson for The Daughters of St. Paul.
The Daughters of St. Paul were founded in 1915 by Blessed James Alberione. The order, which has more than 2,500 sisters around the world, uses modern means of communication to proclaim the Gospel. In addition to their publishing work, they operate bookstores around the world.
