>You really don’t get it. Benedict DID NOT MAKE the gaffe. Pope Francis DID.
Rather both are misunderstood & neither was clear. But you have one standard for Benedict another
>If you actually read what Benedict wrote, you will not come to the conclusion that the stupid Muslims did.
I will go you one better. I read the conversation Francis had where he said “Who am I to judge?”. It was clear
he wasn’t endorsing homosexuality. Pope Benedict was quoting Emperor Emmanuel saying something controversial about Muhammed which Muslims would not like.
I could be argued it was not a prudent thing to do.
>Not because of what Benedict said but because of the STUPIDITY of those who jumped to conclusions.
Again you seem less upset when this is done to Francis then when it is done to Benedict.
>Are you serious? Have you even read the speech?
Yes & I am merely treating Benedict the way your average Francis basher would if it was Pope Francis who made this gaffe. Can you imagine?
>Really? You have got to be joking. The orthodox people would not be confused and up in arms if that were so.
Not if you read the text in context and with the mind of the Church. But if you are content to the sound bites & spin of the media like you where some “stupid Muslim” I can see where you might be confused.
> Mind you, I was reading the text coming out from Catholic Websites and from Zenit so you cannot put this down to MSM spin.
I read the same text. Are you sure you read it? The Pope condemns Proselytizing well so did Benedict. The Pope said Atheists who follower their conscience can be saved? Well so does the 1917 Catholic encyclopedia.
You will have to provide specifics.
>Are you serious? The fact that every time he opens his mouth we have orthodox people confuse, the fact that the Vatican has to issue corrections and clarifications. That should tell you something.
Rather most of the time it has to do with media spin and thus all the crying wolf casts aspersions on those legitimate times Pope Francis has misspoke or was quoted second or third hand.
>He is the master of ambiguity. There is something terribly wrong somewhere when you know that what you say is being twisted by a liar and you keep giving interview, after interview, sans recording and sans notes to this liar.
If the Pope speaks ambiguously (& Francis isn’t the only Pope who has ever done so) then morally we are obligated to interpret what he says in light of what is clear.
Like when Benedict said homosexual male Prostitutes who use condoms to prevent the spreading of AIDS “showing the beginnings of a moral conscience”. I knew right away Benedict wasn’t enforcing homosexuality, prostitution or condom distribution. But the media put their spin on it and Catholics got confused.
That is life.
>Even the clarification is just downright laughable. Pat Archbold said it brilliantly. It is a farce.
Since when has the Vatican Press office acted any different. To this day I don’t know what Pope St. John Paul II said after viewing THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST since the Press Secretary contradicted himself without any intervention from the Pope.
>It is desirable but not required because the main thing required of the Pontiff is to teach correct doctrine WITHOUT ambiguity.
That is not really your standard. Your real standard is when the Pope speaks at all since he might be near a microphone or someone with a twitter account he may not speak with any ambiguity. That is just insane.
We have to stop treating the Pope as an Oracle or the Borg Queen & treat him as a Pope.
>The Pope is not a TV show host. He is the vicar of Christ. The Church is not a reality TV show where you are gunning for the most votes.
I agree but we have to treat the Pope fairly and stop listening to the media spin.
>There is something terribly wrong somewhere when you know that what you say is being twisted by a liar and you keep giving interview,
Yet St John Paul II keep listening to that liar Marcel. Which lead to much worse consequences then the fallout from this interview.
Catholics have such short memories.
Well except this Catholic…...
