Just once:
I'd like to see a movie where a girl chooses the corporate lawyer who's a nice guy over the environmental activist who's pretty much a jerk.
I'd like to hear the government say, "hey this program doesn't really work. Let's cut it."
I'd like to hear a teenager tell a parent they were completely right about something. Anything.
I want to hear my dentist admit, "Yeah, this is probably going to hurt quite a bit."
I'd like to see a hybrid with an NRA bumper sticker.
I'd like to see a movie critic admit that yeah Adam Sandler is kinda' funny.
I'd like to see an advertisement for a "Glee" episode that wasn't a very special episode.
I'd like to paint the walls in the house or move every piece of furniture and have my wife say, "It's perfect. Let's keep it just this way the rest of our lives."
I'd like to see a movie on SYFY and say, "That was better than I thought it would be."
I want to hear the ACLU admit that a little illuminated plastic baby Jesus may not totally destroy freedom as we know it.
I'd like everyone to stop acting so surprised when I have a good idea.
I'd like the right thing and the easy thing to be the same thing.
I'd like to hear a Bigfoot researcher say an eyewitness account sounds like complete malarkey.
I'd like to see an America's Funniest Home Video where some poor Dad doesn't get slammed in the crotch.
I'd appreciate it if my kids could go a whole week without forgetting a book at school.
I'd like the kids to tell me about a project before the night before it's due.
I'd like to go back to back to a time where all my kids' games don't end in a pretend tie.
I'd like to remember to check if the Christmas lights are working before I string them on the tree.
Just once I'd like to see a Hallmark movie with a totally calamitous ending.
Please feel free to add your own things you'd like to see just once (at least.)

I would like to see a Democrat be pro-life and not get driven out of the party (seeing as I’m of the younger generation, this would be a totally strange experience for me)
I’d like to hear a politician say that raising tax rates didn’t bring in more tax revenue.
I’d like to see a football game not take 4 hours.
I’d like to hear a pro athlete say he doesn’t want a raise.
I’d like to hear a feminist admit that women in 12th century France and England owned property, practiced trades, filed lawsuits, and voted. And that the big thing that got “reborn” in the Renaissance was an Iron Age Mediterranean law-code where women were legal minors. I’d like to hear George R. R. Martin admit that he is to fantasy what Mark Millar is to comics, only even less talented. I’d like to hear someone who says the Big Bang can’t be true because the Catholic priest who came up with it was biased in favor of a Creation, say that Relativity can’t be true because the Spinozan pantheist who came up with it was biased in favor of time being illusory. I’d like to hear someone acknowledge that the religion most similar to Mahayana Buddhism is Evangelical Protestantism.
I’d like to see that everyone who calls him/herself Catholic, really is one.
I’d like to see someone have a pillow fight without any parents warning that furniture might get broken.
@Tom, Spot on sir, your post warms my geeky medievalist heart.
I’d like to see an activist judge apologize for their decisions.
I’d like to see a week in which everyone gives up whatever is bothering them.
I’d like to see a group of three year olds discuss the world’s pressing issues.
I’d like to see a genuine sign on my phone getting up in the morning reading: Today has been canceled. Go back to bed.
I would like to have 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
I would like brownies with ice cream, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream to to be good for me and help me to lose weight at the same time.
Yes, mine are selfish ones!
I would like my kids to open the door for me when they watch me walking up to the house with my arms full.
I would like my kids to quietly put down the toilet seat.
Not-so-Innocent: As opposed to the 2-yr olds currently in office?
I’d like to see the pro-life movement just as adamant about adoption as they are about raising money for strollers for single mothers. I’d like to see charities in US give their clients just as much advice about avoiding lifestyle choices that lead to poverty as they do about where to sign up for government benefits. I’d like to see chain emails self destruct 30 seconds after opening. I’d like to see chocolate named an essential vitamin.
I’d like to see a 50 year rest on all hymns written after 1970.
I’d like to see a chicken do the chicken dance. And I, too, would like to see a Hallmark movie with a disastrous ending where everyone dies and the world is covered in devastation.
Just once I’d like to see Wiley Cayote do a number on the Road Runner.
I’d like to see a beauty contest winner who, for het talent segment, solves a partial differential equation.
I’d like to see a workplace sitcom in which people work instead of just using the workplace as their stage for personal dramas and unprofessional behavior.
I’d like to see a news segment on religion or culture wars that doesn’t flash “contrasting images” of a religious group with perhaps 100-300 members total, who may or may not be serious, who are the least attractive, rudest, silliest ones the station could get footage of, next to an atheist philosophy club.
If we were the bumper sticker type, I’d put an NRA one on my hybrid for ya!
I’d like a reporter to report on what is actually going on in this country with resepct to the errosion of liberties. I’d like Congress to pass a budget and stick to it.
Three or two year olds taking on world issues would do a better job. They at least remember Mom said to play nice.
...I’d like my husband to stop rearranging the house.
...I’d like the lazy families who take over parish events, make huge messes, stay too long, and then leave, without contributing anything but mayhem while present, to say thank you and offer to help. (Sorry, really cranky.)
haha Suzanne! Are you at our church? ;) I’m just about ready to make a clean-up sign-up sheet (after Mass we have a lunch potluck- many people contribute to that- very very few people help clean up)
... Obama will stop blaming Bush for fiscal problems.
... Obama supporters will stop using the race card.
... muslims supporters admit that islam is not always peaceful.
... A non-muslim country will impose a tax on muslims.
... Democrats will have brains and morals at the same time.
... A Liberal nun gets excommunicated.
I’d like many days like today. My teenager DID tell me I was right. And thanked me even. So as far as I’m concerned - how can I keep from singing? (Cue post-1970s Marty Haugen soundtrack). All is right with the world.
I would like to a real Catholic, like the one Peter Hall mentions, start working toward a day of rest. Time was once stores and businesses were closed on Sundays as those were for church and family.
I would like to see a real Catholic stand up and fight for the family by demanding a living wage for families so mothers do not have to find a job to keep a roof over her family’s head and food in their stomachs.
I would like to see a real Catholic get up stand against Monsanto, RJ Reynolds,Philip Morris and those companies that poison our air, food and water causing unknown amounts of harm to the unborn and born alike.
“a living wage” define that term please. is it $50/hr, $100/hr? how much is a living wage
” poison our air, food and water ” you’ve been reading too much propaganda from the enviro-fascists
also, I forgot to add…a Mass where the priest uses a Canon other than “Eucharistic Prayer II” would be nice :-)
Just once I’d like to see a blogthread - especially a lighthearted one - not eventually get derailed by the sanctimonious or the humor-impaired.
I’d like to see the Bills make the playoffs.
Pak.. Don’t like science?? Has been proven time and time again the modified food stuffs produced by Monsanto is harmful to humans. They are finding game, I am a hunter, with food borne illnesses when in area using chemicals to treat crops and or genetically modified plants. But please continue to eat it. Tobacco too but please continue to smoke and or chew. You probably get upset and accuse people of playing God, but do not blink when Big Corporations play God with genetics and chemicals.
Living wage. Whether its $10, $20, $30 etc. What does it cost to live in your town? What is the average house price? What is the average food bill? Can a single breadwinner put food on the table, clothe the children and put roof over his family’s head? That’s a living wage. In the 70’s, my father did it as a carpenter. Even where there is alot of construction happening, a carpenter cannot make enough to house feed and cloth his family alone.
You take Eucharist on Sundays and believe “enviro-fascists” and a “living wage” are bad? Really? Do you even listen to the homilies?
“You take Eucharist on Sundays and believe “enviro-fascists” and a “living wage” are bad? Really? Do you even listen to the homilies?”

The last refuge of a scoundrel - implicitly play the “I am a better Catholic than you” game by pretending that adherence to socialist economics and environmental scaremongering is mandated through the Magisterium. To keep with the theme of the thread, for once it would be nice if social justice Catholics actually seriously engaged in conversation rather than sneering at everyone who disagrees with them.
NickD, our priest used the Eucharistic Prayer III just this Sunday. I saw people squirming after a while. :P
...standing room only on weekday Mass.
...everyone receive on the tongue.
...media praise the work of Pope Benedict and the Catholic Church
...Michigan a Right to Work State (check)

“The European Union Food Safety Authority said Wednesday that there is no need to reevaluate the safety of genetically engineered corn made by Monsanto Co. MON +0.57% because a study linking the crop to cancer in rats published in September had serious defects in its design and methodology. “

“During the past decade, widespread adoption of an insect-resistant, genetically engineered crop called Bt-cotton has drastically reduced the use of chemical pesticides in cotton fields, enhanced food security and improved farmers’ bottom line. Economists Graham Brookes and Peter Barfoot estimate that Bt-cotton, which contains a bacterial protein toxic to pests, boosted India’s economy by $9.4 billion from 2002 to 2010, and by $2.5 billion in 2010 alone.”

“After 15 years of GM planting, there’s ample opportunity—with 17 million farmers on almost 400 million acres in 29 countries on six continents—to count the gains from genetic modification of crop plants. A recent comprehensive report by Graham Brookes and Peter Barfoot for a British firm, PG Economics, gives some rough numbers. (The study was funded by Monsanto, MON +0.57% which has major operations in biotech, but the authors say the research was independent of the company and published in two peer-reviewed journals.)”

“You take Eucharist on Sundays and believe “enviro-fascists” and a “living wage” are bad?”
yes especially when enviro-fascists spread falsehoods, and that the “living wage” is misleading. we must all live within our means. you haven’t defined what a “living wage”. Liberal/progressives keep calling for a living wage but can never define what it is. you talk about food, housing etc. all well and good but L/Ps rarely take that into account. no do they take into account market economics.
Paul Zumo - thank you
Seeing a Church constructed in a pre 1941 style (I know it happens but I haven’t seen it).
Not just pre V2 but pre the wave of utility that occurred during first suburbanization
starzec,
Just curious, are you a practising Catholic?
I’m very dubious, too, about genetic tinkerings with our food supply & avoid any use of chemicals when producing my own food. There’s nothing wrong with that stance, but I know much better Catholics than I who are deep into agribusiness.Their understanding of agriculture as taught in AG school & applied to their farming practices may well be influenced by Monsanto, etc but I don’t think they see themselves as complicit in some evil empire conspiracy.Rather, they’re proud to be supplying food to our tables in the most modern, efficient methods.
Maybe a reasonable explanation of the benefits of sustainable agriculture would be a better route to take? Folks just shut down when they think they’re hearing conspiracy theories.
I’d love to see things slow down on Sundays, though. I’m with you there.
Love these wishlists!! I agree with 99.99%.
As a teacher, I would love to see a kid turn in a project that she did ALL BY HERSELF, with no help from mom or dad other than spelling correction suggestions.
Just once I would love to see a Catholic be ashamed of the Pope.
Like tonsee teens tell their parents theyer right, eh? I try that every once in awhile, but it seems that as soon a si agree, my parent decides that wasent was was meant after all, and I get a lecture about….? Not sure. It was either listening better, or being told NOT to listen.
