“The documents appear to have been acquired illegally and contain all manner of private information and statements that were never intended for the public eye, so they won’t be posted here.”
—New York Times, on the Climategate emails, Nov. 20, 2009

“The articles published today and in coming days are based on thousands of United States embassy cables, the daily reports from the field intended for the eyes of senior policy makers in Washington. . . . The Times believes that the documents serve an important public interest, illuminating the goals, successes, compromises and frustrations of American diplomacy in a way that other accounts cannot match.”
—New York Times, on the WikiLeaks documents, Nov. 29, 2010

The New York Times and much of the rest of the nation’s news media have reported on the cartoons but refrained from showing them. That seems a reasonable choice for news organizations that usually refrain from gratuitous assaults on religious symbols, especially since the cartoons are so easy to describe in words. - New York Times, February 7, 2006

Strangely, the New York Times had no problem running an image of The Holy Virgin Mary, in which we are treated to a Madonna with a clump of elephant dung on one breast and cutouts of genitalia from pornographic magazines in the background.

I agree with you Mr. Shea that one religion shouldn’t be treated differentely from another one, but one question remains unanswered. Do you condemn the fact they wouldn’t publish the Muslim cartoons or do you condemn the fact they published the Mary’s cartoon?

I surely condemn the vulgarity directed to Mary, and I could care less what they direct to the satanic false prophet muhammed. Whether modern sissy men agree or not, this country was formed as a Christian Nation, if we don’t defend the One True Faith, Who will, the French?

Just more proof that the newspaper that a half-century ago was the paper of record in the United States now lets its biases overwhelm any consistent standard of decency.  TeaPot562

Mike S. : there are still French Catholics willing to defend the Catholic Church (for instance : me). I don’t see how insulting them is going to help the One True Faith.

Thibaud, my apologies. Sometimes my good old boyism gets tangled up with my Catholicism. Keep defending the Faith, and happy New Year.

Is it any wonder the “Times” is called the “Grey Lady”.  Its a dingy, dirty color, the “Times” is not the purveyor of “Truth” she could be or else it might be called the “White or Black Lady”, but then most of journalism is tainted that way, which gives credence to the tag of “yellow journalism”.

Does the word hypocrisy come to mind regarding the NYT?

Apologies accepted, Mike. Happy New Year to you ! God bless you !
