Even Right Wing Militia Thinks Burning Quran Is Bad
Truth be told, I do not give much consideration to the sensitivities of others. While I accept that sometimes you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, I also think its a good thing when the jars of honey and vinegar are labeled correctly.
I prefer sharp lines and clear distinctions. That is my nature. As anyone who knows me or anyone who regularly reads me can tell you, I don’t much mind confrontation either. And feelings get hurt sometimes, after all that is what they are there for.
All this preamble is intended to convince you of my bona fides when it comes to tactics of a more aggressive nature when trying to make a point. Why? Because these people are off their rocker.
(CNN)—In protest of what it calls a religion “of the devil,” a nondenominational church in Gainesville, Florida, plans to host an “International Burn a Quran Day” on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks.
I am no Mr. Sensitivity, but this is simply outrageous provocation and disrespect. You may catch more flies with honey than vinegar but I pretty sure you won’t catch any with a cannon.
This stunt, and that is what it is a stunt, has nothing to do with Christianity. Jesus didn’t walk around Galilee with brass knuckles. This stunt, this provocation is so over the top that a right wing Militia group refuses to have any part of it. Mind you, I don’t categorize them as right wing, they do.
An armed militia that goes by the name Right Wing Extreme withdrew from providing security for the event and asked for it to be canceled due to “for the reason that it may diminish the work of the Holy Spirit to witness to Muslims.”
Like I said, I don’t mind a little confrontation now and again. But if both I and the “Right Wing Extreme” militia think that this does not serve Christ, probably time to rethink the operation.
However if the intent has never been to serve Christ but to provoke and deride people in order to foment hatred, then you are probably on the right track. But do us all a favor, don’t bring Jesus into it.
