From an article published in tomorrow’s edition of the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano:
The Pave the Way Foundation, a U.S. institution dedicated to promoting world peace through dialogue among religions, has formally requested to have Eugenio Pacelli (Pope Pius XII) recognized as a “Righteous Among the Nations” and then placed on a list in the famous Garden of the Righteous at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.
Pave the Way’s founder president, Gary Krupp, communicated the initiative to Benedict XVI during today’s general audience in the Paul VI Hall. Krupp also gave the Holy Father a book on Pope Pius covering around three thousand documents on the wartime Pontiff, discovered after lengthy research, and enriched by many photos. Krupp, who is Jewish, said it was “a token of gratitude for Benedict XVI’s initiatives in favor of dialogue between Catholics and Jews.”
