Why Would You Google 'Abortion'?

Tuesday, August 31, 2010 9:00 AM Comments (31)

Jill Stanek asked an interesting question over the weekend.

Why Is Abortion Googled More in Pro-Life States?

This question comes from a Boston Herald article that reports on a recent study that found that “abortion” was Googled more frequently in states with conservative abortion policies than in states with easier access to abortion.

The problem is that the doctors who conducted the study were not content to simply report facts. They needed a reason. And without one they could prove, they opted for conjecture. Conjecture that supports their pro-legalized-abortion agenda, of course.

“In places where abortion access is readily available, people can go to their mainstream health care providers,” Reis suggested. In areas with more abortion searches, he said, “people may be going on the Internet to find alternate routes.”

He said the pattern was found in every state and country studied.

“We were actually very surprised. There is a very consistent, strong relationship,” Reis said.

Of course! People in pro-life states are researching abortion online so that they can figure out how to perform one on themselves! That’s the most logical explanation.

Or maybe not.

Maybe ... as commenters on Jill Stanek’s post are quick to point out, people research “abortion” as a means of keeping up with important news, learning about our nation’s laws, or educating themselves about fetal development.

In my Google account, I have a news page set to the keyword “abortion.” And it’s not because I am desperately trying to figure out how I can get myself one.

To me, this “study” and the doctor’s conjecture sound desperate. They need to keep coming up with ways to frighten people into believing we are a hair’s-breadth away from coat hangers and back alley abortions in which innocent pregnant women imperil their own lives in their determination to destroy their unborn children.

Come on. Give us more credit than that.

If, as the doctors who commissioned this study logically suggest with their analysis, the majority of people are using their mainstream healtcare providers as their Internet search engine, then that’s probably some waste in our current healthcare system which could be eliminated.

The Boston Herald is creating news.  To research the history of alcohol, for example, visit the archives of the temperance people.  Some black people collect anti-black racist material.  I once had a collection of anti-Catholic literature which was accepted into a Catholic library. Knowledge of your enemy is the best way to counter their arguments.  Remember the old advice:  Keep you friends close, but your enemies closer.

Of course the dr.‘s determination that self induced abortion is the reason for abortion being highly googled. Abortion is a multi million dollar industry and putting fear into people that back alley abortions are going to take the place of legalized abortion is more rhetorical threats!
The medical industry and PPH must be shaking in their boots because people are finally realizing that it is a fully formed baby, it feels pain, it has it’s own set of organs and blood type etc…...MORE IMPORTANTLY, people are starting to realize that hurts women and me.

First of all up to 85 % of all “reported” abortions are either from coercion, pressure, fear, or misleadings from the medical industry.
Women and men are finally coming out with their story of how abortion hurt them and and how the abortionists and clinic workers “sell” abortions.

Secondly, the black and Hispanic population needs to wake up and see that thy are truly being targeted, and that abortion is aimed at minorities. It’s called Eugenics or ethnic cleansing, u know, what Hitler did in the holocaust.  Margaret Sanger, one of the founders of PPH actually taught Hitler how to euthanize in his camps. Hmmm sounds a little bizarre? Do your homework!

Oh yes, people, abortion has many many levels of evil, from spend a little to save a lot.  In other words, kill the baby for a little and save on food, education, medical needs…..yada yada yada

So maybe people are finally waking up!

IT IS LEGAL TO KILL AN UNBORN BABY UP TO NINE MONTHS IN THE WOMB, ON DEMAND!!! WHICH MEANS FOR ANY REASON!!! SICK

So what’s next??? HMMM could it be kill a 10 month old BORN child with a handicap that is a burden on society? Or how about your elderly parents who can no longer survive on their own, or the ill.

Think about it people, it can only get worse if this type of behavior is accepted. Abortion is pure evil and the Dr.‘s who preform or refer for abortions are not doing so out of compassion, they are doing it for he almighty buck!

Planned Parenthood is indeed shaking in its boots.  Abortions have gone down the past couple of years.  But the reason isn’t necessarily pro-life demonstrations or changes in laws.

It’s probably the morning after pill and now the 1-week morning after pill, just announced.

It’s still abortion, but it can be done in the home, at the beach, in a theater, etc.  And nobody but God (and your doctor and pharmacist) has to know.  Just swallow it with your Pepsi (or so).

We might see in ten years PP filing for bankruptcy.

Forget the google search - it makes sense that in states with anti-choice laws, that women will seek out alternatives, and yes, will resort to unsafe, unhealthy ways to abort unwanted pregnancies.

I long for the Church to return to it’s Christian roots, where women were equals and didn’t need to be subject to men’s laws over their bodies.

Sandra, abortion is not forbidden under man’s law. it is forbidden under God’s law. and how can the Church return to its Christian roots, when it still believes in the Holy Trinity, and that Jesus is the Son of God.

Sandra, Roman Catholic teachings is against murder, it is one of the 10 Commandments.
It is not right to kill a baby, but it is also not right to force someone to do it either.
Sometimes, men and women are pressured or coerced or have no other alternative, so they think and they abort against their will.
I find that a lot of pro-choice individuals have been involved in abortion themselves, or have helped or with held help to others in a crises pregnancy.

d.dunn,
It was exactly that teaching - thy shalt not kill, that lead me to march away from the Church during the Vietnam War.  There was a bishop blessing ships so american could go and kill Vietnamese, while spouting about the sanctity of life.  Until Catholics get really pro life, they need to shut up and clean up their own house.  The invasion of Iraq - immoral, illegal, and something that Cheney and gang had been planning since Reagan was in power.  I didn’t hear the Church condemming it, or catholic soldiers refusing to go on moral grounds.

If the Catholic Church wants to be a moral force in the world, it needs to get off its sanctimonious high horse, and start living a moral life.  Then it will be a moral force by example.

sorry “withheld”

Put the Catholic Church aside and all religion aside, it is still murder. I am not for war, but sometimes it is a necessity and men and women enlist. They have a choice! What choice does the innocent baby in the womb have?
It is morally wrong and it is intrinsic evil

well, d.dunn - the innocent people murdered in VietNam and Iraq didn’t choose to be killed either.  Their crime was living in a country invaded by the US.  I haven’t had an abortion, and I wouldn’t force one on you.  But I wouldn’t dream of taking that choice away from anyone else.

Again, if you believe something is evil, then don’t do it.  I’ve heard people accuse gays of recruiting our children to be homosexuals.  What a stupid, ignorant thing to say.

Instead - why don’t you work on doing something about the priests who are sexually abusing our children, and their colleagues and bishops covering up for them.

I live with a sexual abuse survivor, and he has had his life almost ruined by it.  It is a soul destroying offence, and one of the most heinous crimes against humanity.  But no, Catholics are too busy trying to make laws against abortion and the human rights of gays.

AGain - clean up your own house - and the world will be a better, more moral place!

Hey look Miss Hostility, Why is ok for u to have ur opinion, but i can’t have mine.  I was at a very young age coerced into abortions myself, so i also walked the walk. Coercion is abuse and abortion is abuse, both to the baby and the mother.
I personally couldn’t care less what u think of the Cath. Ch., this is not about them, it’s about murder and coercion.
Stick to the topic!!! Stop the hate, if u hate the church, go on a blog about the church this is about abortion

Hey Ms Hostility,
I’m sorry you were coerced into abortion.  Coercion is abuse, just as coercing someone to have an unwanted pregancy is abuse.  And this issue is about the catholic church, since they are the most powerful anti choice organization out there.  I’m not about hate, I’m speaking out about the abuse of the catholic church, particularly on the issue of abortion.  If Catholics believe that abortions are evil, then they must not have them, or assist anyone else to have them.  If they believe that abortion is murder, and all murder is evil, then they must quite supporting capital punishment and taking part in imperialist wars.  It’s real simple.

R u kidding??? This article is about searching google for abortions!!! What are u reading?

I never said i wanted to overturn roe v wade, did u read that in one of my posts? or the writers post???

OK lets not overturn roe v wade, how about full disclosure?
Do u think it is ok that abortion is the only unregulated industry in the medical field? Do u think an eleven yr old who becomes pregnant is now an adult in the eyes of the law?

Did u know that if a child, say 11 or12 goes into a clinic pregnant from rape or incest that the abortionist does not have to report it??? Helloooo, isn’t that ur beef? No, they just do the abortion and send the minor back into the perpetrators arms!!!! Again DO UR HOMEWORK!!!!!!

I don’t mean to sound hostile, believe me, I am just kind of shaking my head…..hello wake up

Sandra, you are so anti-Catholic that you refuse to read what the Catholic Church magisterium has even written about war, capital punishment, etc.  The Catholic Church has a consistant ethic of life. It is NOT for war, and it is one of the most vocal opponents of the death penalty.  It does, however, realize, that, because of the fallen nature of man, there can exist such a thing as a just war.  And, although according to the CCC, it is so rare nowadays as to be virtually non-existant, there might exist in some society somewhere the situation in which putting the heinous and well-connected violent criminal to death might be the only true way to protect the innocent in society.  There is NEVER a justifiable reason to murder a baby directly by abotion. You are making a god of “choice” if you think that a woman’s convenience is more important that another human being’s life. (And yes, Sandra, medical science is quite clear and unanymous—despite the pro=abortion’s ‘talking points’—that a child in utero is a separate human being with completely unique DNA.  It is not just a “blob of tissue,” unless you want to consider yourself simply a “blob of tissue.”)  Now that’s not to say that if a woman’s life is in danger because of the existance of the child, and the death of the child is the unfortunate side effect of saving the mother’s life, that the child’s life need be chosen over the mother’s—of course not.  But saying that a child should be allowed to be murdered simply because his or her existence is “inconvenient” is evil beyond description.

Sorry about all the typos in my last post!  Ugh!  Anyway, you all should see the new movie (available on DVD for $20) called “Blood Money” about the abortion industry and its deceptions and cover-ups and letting women die and even doing abortions on non-pregnant women—all in order to make their billions of dollars.  They are NOT really for the best interests of the women, and the women who go in to have an abortion are often pressured and tricked when they are at their most vulnerable.  In this movie is an interview with a former abortion-clinic owner, and the things she says about her former industry would make you truly sick.  Anyone who watches this movie and still allows themselves to buy the lie that Planned Parenthood is a benevolent organization or that abortion is a good “choice” for many women—well, they must be either blinded by their agendas or they are truly misogynistic!  Buy the movie “Blood Money,” show it to youth groups and other groups, pass it around, get out the word.  It’s time to bring this industry that thrives on violence, misery, and death to an end.

I can’t be involved in this discussion any further.  It’s just getting too ridiculous.  As long as you believe that all of this b.s. is God’s will, there is no talking sense to any of you.

The early Christian community was not hierarchical, or patriarchal - and the Catholic Church is.  And as long as that is the case, the rules will be anti women, anti choice, and sadly lacking in spirituality.

The group of nuns of which I was a member are pro choice.  And they support the human and civil rights of gay people.  And they changed the constitution of the order to make it democratic and non-heirarchical.
But because they are mere women, the most progressive, most spiritual and most Christian part of the Church has not influence on it.  Sad, truly sad.

Good Sandra, Because it is quite clear u r a fake and just on here lead by some pro-abort organization to put ur thoughts based on evil up for all to read.
If a word of what u say “IS” true, the nuns were of the American Catholic, not the Roman Catholic order.
I am glad u r taking ur hate somewhere else, now go back and tell ur PPH cohorts that u stink as a person posing to impostor a true liberal loon, because, u simply are very transparent, to say the least. Ur words r pure evil, not u….ur words….u need help child

Sandra, I know you think I’m the “enemy” because my opinions are diametrically opposed to yours, but I want you to know that I once was where you seem to be now—an angry feminist who bought all the lies I was fed in my women’s studies classes at university.  I used to work in the women’s center there, too.  I was intellectually honest enough to leave the Catholic Church because I thought it was run by a bunch of misogynistic old supposedly-celibate men who wanted to subordinate women.

The one thing I never really gave up doing, though, was praying to know God’s will.  In time, I realized that I was being prompted very strongly to *study* the teachings of the Church.  I *thought* that I knew what the Church taught because I was raised by very devout parents (along with almost a dozen siblings) and they sent me to Catholic schools (although this was post-Vatican II, and most of what I learned there was touchy-feely “spirituality” and not much that was concrete about doctrines and dogmas).  I couldn’t ignore the “nagging” of the Holy Spirit anymore, so I obeyed.  I studied the early church, the teachings of the Fathers (boy, did that grate on my nerves to call them “fathers”!  I figured that the contributions of women in the church were being swept under the proverbial rug!) and the writings of the church doctors (some of whom, I found to my amazement, were women, including one woman who was virtually illiterate!).  I studied the CCC, and most of all, I studied scripture.  I prayed to know the truth in all of it and not to be deceived by lies (which I figured would be coming from the “old men” running the Church.)  Slowly, all my objections melted away, and I found that *I* was the one who had a horribly skewed view of what the Catholic Church was and what she taught.

I’m sure you probably don’t want advice from me, but my advice for you anyway (and for everyone else reading this post) is to do the same – pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit, and study the Church on your own, from original sources, not relying on priests or nuns or anyone else to “digest” the information for you.  Do the research yourself, giving the “Church’s” point of view fair consideration.  Pray for humility to accept the truth, whatever that truth might be.  If you do all that and still have the same opinions that you do now, then be intellectually honest enough to leave the Church that you believe to be so misguided and false, and go where the Holy Spirit leads you.  There are about 30,000 other denominations of Christianity from which to choose.

Good luck, Sandra, and may God, who loves you more than any of us can imagine, bless you in your endeavors.  May God reveal all Truth to you, to me, and to everyone reading this post, knowing that we will all be judged someday according to how we respond to the truth that was revealed to us, whether naturally (intellectually, rationally) or supernaturally (spiritually).

I think I may have caused some of it, when in various faith formation classes (i.e. pre-confirmation CCD) and I introduce the Catechism and Catholic teachings on LIFE. I do ask participants, that with their parents, research some of the “abortion” websites and see how they try to use glamor (illusion) to hide or to avoid the facts.  Not out-and-out lying, but not telling the truth.

What passes as “education” in many schools, (public, parochial and private) does not “touch” what is an abortion, what reasoning is behind the encouragement to have an abortion, what happens during and after, and the very real health (physical and mental) issues of women and girls that had abortions.

And I KNOW, I am not the only one that does this little assignment with my group, many others use the same or similar exercises.  We cannot bury our heads in the ground or ignore that the message is in the public square, and in all the media.

Yep, lots of teens and parents doing the “google” and driving up the stats.  It takes KNOWLEDGE and conviction to stand up and say “no,” to the culture of death today and embrace LIFE in all it’s forms and power.

BTW, I am a very different Sandra than Sandra Currie (we need to pray for her and those like her).

Amy and d. dunn; thank-you for your words of wisdom on this topic.

I agree with u Sandra we do need to pray for her. Thank u for your insight and ur leaning on the Holy Spirit, much admiration to u from me.

Amy
Thank you for your kind and thoughtful response.  And I don’t think anyone on this site is the enemy.  I am only here in the hopes that one or two people will actually look a bit more closely at their firmly held beliefs and go a little deeper in order to examine if they are truly Christian.  Unlike you, I didn’t take any women’s studies courses.  But I did attend Catholic School, Gonzaga university and entered a Roman Catholic convent.  So my knowledge of the Catholic Church and Catholicism is extensive.

I presently have a rich spiritual life, meditate daily, and lead a good and Christian life without the benefit of any organized religion.  My community of friends are good people, who lead decent lives and contribute a great deal to society.  I was deeply influenced by Christ’s teachings, and they have guided my life.

And by the way d.dunn, the only reason I didn’t name the Roman Catholic religious order I entered was because of fear that they would be persecuted, if not by Rome, at least by several people on this site!

And I sincerely want the people who say they are going to pray for me to extend that courtesy to themselves.  I’ll do my own praying, thank you very much.

Google the “Endowment for Human Development” - - a non-religious site.
It provides the best pro-life scientific info I have ever seen.

The Murder of Innocents violates the God’s Commandment “Thou Shall Not Kill”.
If you love your Neighbor, you must want them to get to Heaven.  This is true love.
Catholics must adhere to the “CATECHISM of the CATHOLIC CHURCH, Second Edition or you are Heretic, Schismatic, or guilty of Incredulity or apostacy. (2089)
Abortion is Murder (2271-2272).
Each of us can have a responsibility for the sins committed by others, and that we can become accomplices in the sins of others through complaisance, approving of them, etc;  (1868, 1869, 2480)

Anne I totally agree with and thank you for bringing up the Ten Commandments because not everyone follows them especially

“You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or worship them”

“For six days you shall labour and do all your work. But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God”

So as part of loving your nieghbor we must also make them aware of the other commandents that will also keep them out of Heaven.  Like you stated that is true love.

Sandra Currie, I applaud you for your calm and clarity in the midst of ideology and fanaticism. It’s difficult to debate people who haven’t made their own decisions.

Abigail, I find it insulting (as I’m sure you intended it) that you assume that people who accept the teachings of the Catholic Church are fanatics who don’t make their own decisions.  I find it ironic that it was when I was a pro-“choice” feminist that I wasn’t doing my own thinking; I was just accepting what my professors and my older sisters were feeding me, and then I’d go to demonstrations and protests and such based on their opinions that I took to be gospel.  NOW I accept what the Church teaches not because I’ve “checked my brain at the door” but BECAUSE I’ve accepted it all INTELLECTUALLY first, after having done a lot of my own research.

Abigail, Your last comment was one of the cruelest, heartless, juvenile comments I have ever heard.
You should be ashamed of yourself for playing on others weakness and misfortunes.

Amy,
You must have been in a different women’s movement than I was.  I never had anyone telling me what I had to think, believe, practice etc.  In fact, you make it very difficult to believe that you were ever a feminist.  You wouldn’t just be saying that to try to prove a point, now, would you?

And if it is true, you seem alarmingly susceptible to other people’s opinions, and the Church’s opinion.

And Abigail - I admire your courage to.

You have a right to believe whatever you want - just don’t go trying to force other people to have them by changing laws to limit other people’s beliefs.

Don’t have abortions, and don’t engage in homosexual acts, but keep your beliefs and your laws off my body.

“Pro-choice” my ass.  Jesus is watching each of you who would advocate/encourage/allow the SATANIC RITE of MURDERING AN UNBORN BABY, here in the Last Days when supernatural evil is progressively turned (as pre-ordained by the Creator) loose on the earth, as per the prophecies.  You satanic baby-killers (choice my ass) will stand DIRECTLY before Him (and do even now, as He watches you, every moment: bad Karma, baby)), just before you are thrown into hell.
He’s invisible (for now).  Talk DIRECTLY to Him (to hell with the “legal “system, which is supposed to originate with God anyway, and with satanic organized “religion” and its false priestcraft, which lets this satanic crap go on.).  Or don’t talk to Him- THAT IS A “CHOICE” YOU CAN MAKE, ONCE MADE AWARE OF THAT CHOICE., as I have just done here.
