President Biden and Justice Breyer made a joint appearance on Thursday afternoon to discuss the justice’s retirement announcement.
A member of the liberal wing, Justice Breyer has consistently supported abortion rights throughout his time on the court.
“Structural alteration motivated by the perception of political influence can only feed that perception, further eroding that trust,” the justice warned during a speech at Harvard Law School.
During March 20 oral arguments, justices on both sides of the court’s ideological divide indicated concern about the law’s constitutionality.
