When Fulton Sheen is beatified this September in St. Louis, it will mark the second time that the singular Catholic personality has drawn crowds of thousands to the downtown of the ‘Rome of the West.’
The EF-3 twister was part of a massive outbreak sequence on May 18 that also spawned tornadoes in Kentucky, killing at least 19 people in that state and leveling the small town of London, about 80 miles south of Lexington. Several more deaths from tornadoes were also reported in Virginia and in southeastern Missouri.
Before announcing the changes in May 2023, the archdiocese held 350 listening sessions, with at least one in each of the 178 current parishes.
A retired Vincentian priest who ministered in St. Louis until 2021 was sentenced this week to five years in prison, after admitting in October to possessing thousands of images containing child pornography.
Archbishop Mitchell Rozanski of St. Louis, the celebrant at the conference’s opening Mass on Jan. 2, asked those in attendance to dedicate the week to praying for the late Pope’s soul.

On July 1, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt said he plans to sue, saying the city’s plan amounts to a use of taxpayer funds for abortions, which is prohibited under state law.
Since opening the convent across from the Planned Parenthood facility, religious sisters and staff have noticed a considerable decrease in the number of surgical abortions performed.
“Within a few hours of it going up, we walked by and someone had torn down the signs we had up alongside it,” Isabelle Hotard, President of Students for Life at St. Louis University said.
