The prayer was the culmination of a worldwide day of fasting, prayer, and penance for peace in the world called for by the Pope amid the escalating war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The charges against both Father Gough and Vaughan-Spruce were eventually dropped because of insufficient evidence against them.
Vaughan-Spruce was arrested Dec. 6, 2022, in Birmingham, England, outside an abortion facility that was closed at the time.
Police were responding to a complaint from a member of the public who believed that Vaughan-Spruce was praying silently.

In a press release published on Oct. 11, the council said the decision to enforce a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) was made following a public consultation. A PSPO is intended to stop anti-social behavior.
