In a statement, Christiana Holcomb, legal counsel for the group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), said, “Allowing males to compete in girls’ sports destroys fair competition and women’s athletic opportunities.”
Matt Sharp, senior counsel for the legal group Alliance Defending Freedom, said the law will not always vindicate religious freedom claims; rather, he said, it provides people with a legal recourse when they believe their rights have been violated by the state.
The little-known apparition happened in 19th-century Montana to an Indian boy and girl during Father Pierre De Smet’s mission among the territory’s tribes.
The accused man, Anthony Weimer, faces a felony charge of criminal mischief.
