The Holy Father sent a telegram to Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich, asking the cardinal to convey his spiritual closeness to all affected by the mass shooting.

Eight people were pronounced dead at the scene, five people were hospitalized with injuries from the shooting, and two others were treated for injuries at the scene and released, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department reported.
Archbishop Hebda called on the community to “pause and pray, particularly during this time of already heightened tension due to the Chauvin trial.”
